Am curious, looking at different exceptions, if there might be an attempt to move Jones and shed salary, in an attempt to be able to use the full MLE. Hardcapping ourselves in the process, but having more buying power?
If the previous figures showed us at right around the tax, that gives us 6.5 or so in breathing room under the apron.
The only teams we can dump him on are OKC and New Orleans. New Orleans will probably bring back Hart, so cross that off. OKC means giving them capital.

I suppose it could be worth it if you have someone lined up to take the full MLE. I don't see anyone left that is worth the full MLE except Reggie Jackson? But he's a point guard.

Our Oubre for TPMLE competition:

ATL - No role here
BOS - Not going into the tax
CHA - 13.5 for Oubre?
CHI - Can offer full MLE
CLE - Can offer full MLE
LAC - Kawhi is out, he has a clear role here
GSW - Do they want him back?
MIL - Don't think they are spending more into the tax for Oubre
MIN - Team sucks, but they can offer the full MLE
NOP - Can offer full MLE
PHI - Does he have a role here?
SAC - Can offer full MLE
TOR - Can offer full MLE, but why would they want him
WAS - They aren't going into the tax for Oubre

Man.... why would he come here if we can't offer him a starting role?

How do you downgrade when you let the worst defenders in the league go? Melo and Kanter

can’t argue with a brick :)

we lost Kanter’s rebounding and gained Cody Zeller?

Snell who? Is an improvement over Melo? Lakers didn’t think so!

had Powell signed to play elsewhere this game would be OVER! Dame would send a pigeon from Japan carrying a big note addressed for Olshey:

trade me tomorrow!

Quiye frankly, I predict if Olshey can’t get a major trade done within a week to ten days - Dame will be back to personally hand delivery the note!

Chris Haynes

"I'm not seeing any moves that convinces him (Dame) or me or anyone else"
" I expect Damian to play with the Blazers, give chauncey a shot"
"I'm still hearing paul millsap/kelly oubre"
"so far nothing that moves the needle"

This is a direct quote from Haynes:

"Damian Lillard said, the roster as is, he doesn't see how this is a team that can really contend for a title, and that's what he wants. Management thinks otherwise."

It’s possible they’re not using the MLE yet because they wanna do a sign and trade and can’t use it if so. Maybe there’s a free agent out there they think they’ve still got a shot at.

keeping it for the return of LaMarcus Aldridge

Oh, if Neil is pushing back, we won't have Dame opening day. There's just no way that if Neil is unwilling to see things Dames way... which is obviously the clear way of seeing it, that Dame is going to put shit off until mid season or next off season when he can get his start with his new team from day one and develop some chemistry.

Olshey is digging his own grave...
(isn't he half way to China by now?)

Going into Day 3 -- trades can still happen yet you guys whine like it's cool now going to be honest ....

The signings up until this point have been solid signing BUT in terms of talent I do not think were any worse BUT in terms on known talent like we know what we have / getting etc were making the jump that Billups will be able to be a player whisperer and get more out of players and/or consistency for AnT , Snell and McLemore and others.

Now where I will agree is if we do pretty much nothing more and No Trade(s) then I am willing to concede -- NeO is a complete tool and makes it more probable then NOT that Dame will ask out of Pdx and that would be a TOTAL Disaster but we have to give NeO the time to do his thing cause 3 days and 3 signings does not warrant this much whining and bitching I am reading on this forum. I feel like i am one of the few fans that understand everything while still trying to keep a level head while the rest of you are like chicken little and the fucking SKY is falling when it's not ATLEAST not at this time.

CHILL OUT ALL but I am done with this forum until we get some REAL news but everyone have a good day etc and GO BLAZERS ------

PS --- I am considering returning with a website to balance out Edge and that BS cause this season for better or worse is going to be entertaining in terms of stuff to discuss
Don’t be like that. There isn’t much news and as a result, participants here are frustrated like any fan would be. Hang in there - I predict that by or at least over the weekend one of two things will have happened:

1. blazers announce blockbuster trade including CJ, for a star SF, PF or C;

2. no trades - Dame hints at playing elsewhere

Dame isn't saying shit in interviews unless Neil pisses him off so much that he reiterates a trade demand.

Snell apparently can shoot 3 good, and actually plays on the defensive side of the court. That alone is an improvement over Melo.

I'm amazed watching the Twitterverse proclaiming the greatness of the Lakers in landing Melo. I just saw a tweet about them having a big four: LeBron, AD, Westbrook and Carmelo.

I saw another tweet yesterday that had Carmelo starting in LA.

I'm not a Carmelo hater. However, if he's starting for the Lakers, that team has problems. And its bench is an even bigger problem.

If we start the regular season and Powell is our starting SF we’re going to be in a world of hurt.

Not because Powell isn’t a good player. I’m a huge fan. But because he has no business defending 6’9” SF’s
How many 6'9 starting SFs are there?

I like the Snell signing. I think he's one of those under-the-radar people who really can help a team.

Wasn't nearly as happy with McLemore. I liked him out of college and really thought he had a chance to be a big-time player, but he's had plenty of chances now and shown he's not.

This.

People think it's 10 years ago when assessing the Blazers' lack of height. Everyone except the Lakers are playing small-ball. There just aren't many teams anymore that are posting up guards and small forwards when they have a height advantage.

which UFA's left would be worth the MLE?

I really don't know who is available

Was he even the 4 while he was here? Not positionally, but importance on the team.

I'd put Dam, CJ, Nurk, Powell/Trent and even Kanter ahead of him.

id say the only rotation players less important last year were DJJ and Simons.

terry stotts treated him like a star carmelo, so id guess he was 3rd best player in stotts eyes

let’s be real…Snell isn’t better than Melo. Like your positive attitude though! We’re gonna need it during the season after letting Melo and Kanter go for Snell, MacLemore and Zeller

According to ESPN's depth charts Michael Porter Jr. at 6'10", LeBron James at 6'9", Kyle Anderson at 6'9", Kyle Kuzma at 6'10" and Poku at 7' but he doesn't really count because his PF is 6'8". So it is crazy how man guys are 6'7"... it was well over half of the starting small forwards in the league. Then there were a bunch at 6'6" and 6'8". Under 6'6" there was Devin Vassell 6'5", Isaac Okoro 6'5", Josh Okogie 6'4" and Norman Powell 6'3".

The average height of the starting small forwards in the league when I substituted Poku's 7 feet with 6'8" was 6'6.7". Obviously those depth charts are shifting around as we speak but most of the guys that were listed were starters at SF before. Just to give everyone an idea of what's out there versus what we have.

He may not score as much, but he's a better 3 point shooter and a significantly better defender. And he won't get tunnel vision and ignore other players who are wide open.

We will see just how good a defender he is - truly hope so! He’s now a Blazer - so I’ll cheer him on and hope he fills a role.

I dont know about WORTH, but just gives us the ability to outbid?

ok...I see that

I guess I'm so used to Portland having no leverage I can't recognize what any leverage would look like
