To be clear, if there is any chance you can get Kawhi without giving up Dame then sure, go for it. Even if he sits out a year. But 0% chance.
If you could sign him to a multi year, absolutely. But getting him this year would most likely be a 1 year rental, in which he may not play. And how much would that 1 year cost.

Not if they follow the rules. If the don't sign and trade, use the MLE or BAE... they don't get hard capped. That's it. So they can sign their players with bird, early bird to max contracts, early bird rights to 175% of their previous salary and non bird rights to 125% of theirs and go as far over the salary cap as they please and have a taxpayer MLE every off season.

If a team had 14 players on their roster that made an all nba team during their previous contract that was three seasons or more that team could have a salary of ~560M in theory.
I know that is an exaggeration but certain teams would rather be hard capped then pay that much in luxury tax.

The deals so far have been surprisingly tame. Only one that was kind of out there was Zach Collins, but it's just a 3 year deal anyways, and not huge money.

Thanks for clearing that up. So the Lakers can't use the sign & trade without being Hard Capped?

How would it be a 1 year rental. It would be a sign and trade. We wouldn't give up anything of value to get him for 1 year. Come on now.

Don't know if it's posted yet but Kent Bazemore is a Laker now

They can send a player out unfortunately, so yeah they can sign and trade Schroder. You can't acquire a player via sign and trade without being hard capped. Sorry, I should have made that clearer.

Might get slaughtered for saying this but with the Siakam injury I might call up Philly and pony up CJ/3 1s for Simmons. I mean whens the last time one of our mid 20s picks hit anyway? Simmons is only 24 and fills the PF and backup PG needs. I say roll the dice.

Dame
Norm
RoCo
Simmons
Nurk

is the best lineup we have had in 20 years.

Now that Norm in definitely in-tow I do think I would go a little more aggressive on a deal with CJ (as in give away a couple 1sts with him or a 1st and swap picks and anfarnee or something) where I wouldn't had Norm left.

You still have to pay him. He's gonna sign a vet. Min. for a year to join us. If he was to sign a vet. min. then Hell Yes! Even for a hurt one year.

He would never agree to a sign & trade to us. He's ALL LA.

For DeRozan to get more than MLE from another team he would need to be sign and traded. The money has dried up. I don't know that I prefer him over CJ though even though he fits better at SF. It is close. Would you trade CJ for him?
I've never been a fan of his on offense. He can get to the basket and play D though. Still, not sold on it.

I think he gets to the line quite a bit too? Or maybe I am wrong. Someone correct me on DeRozan. But I do think I would consider it (but not thrilled necessarily).

im not sure i like this move, im leaning towards no

but ill be happy to being proven wrong

man that would be great
Funny story: I was all in on drafting Rudy Gay ahead of Brandon Roy in '06.

It would be ironic for me personally if we were to sign him after all these years.
