Free Agent Thread

I haven't been to as many cities as many of you have. But Portland is my favorite, for more reasons than it's my hometown. Denver is 2nd ( current home, 2nd go around), and Honolulu is my 3rd. Toronto is my favorite Big City. But every time i hear a Nat'l Sports Talk Host, say " Ain't nobody going to Portland", it's like a giant kick to the jewels. Tonight Ephraim Salaam , who host a Saturday Show with Brian Noe, said exactly those words when talking about where Free Agents would go. I like Ephraim. He played for my Broncos, and is a genuine good dude. He's a SoCal Boy so he loves everything LA. But i hate that he said that statement. Because he's not the only one. Noe is Butthurt, so he's gonna badmouth Portland. Kinda expect that. He's back in Indiana waiting on his next gig. But it shows how hard it is to get TOP players to sign up with our favorite team. Unless we overpay. And i find it super sad cause once guys go to Portland, many stay. But if our Blazers are to make a move, it will most likely have to be through trade. Neil's job ain't easy, but many seem to think he sits on his hands and does nothing. I believe he'd love to make the Blazers Champions. It would be an incredible accomplishment in these current NBA times. But it also makes me even more appreciative of Dame, And CJ too, for making a commitment to the area , not just the court. And why, if just things can go right, how special a Championship with these guys would be. And a wonderful Erect, Middle, Finger to the Naysayers.

If Neil wanted a championship here he'd act like it.

In 9+ years, by his actions, he hasn't. Get him out of here and bring in someone who does care.

Millsap going to the Nets :biglaugh: pretty soon Lakers and Nets are going to have to fork off and start the Senior NBA!

I'd prefer Exum who is the much better shooter.

I would like to take a chance on him. He has had a couple of injuries that set him back over his career. He looked good in the Olympics. (Which I know means very little in the NBA, but he still looked good in the games I watched)

Guessing we were waiting on the Millsap shoe to drop before this deal.

It was gonna be between Exum/Ntilikina/Smith I figured.

I think I like Smith the least of these three young-ish high lotto PG reclamation projects. But it's still for the 14th roster spot, so doesn't really matter.

Yeah, out of the 3, I'd take SMith last. At least the other 2 offer defense. That being said, it's a training camp invite.

Maybe we will see invites for Ntilikina and Exum too

What was it about Smith that teams didn't like? He fell out of favor in Dallas pretty quickly.

he was more athlete than basketball player. Looking at his numbers his assist/turnover ratio was pretty bad. Probably wasn’t very good at running an offense which was an issue because he’s not big enough to play other positions and not good enough of a shooter to play off the ball.

His recent numbers suggest he’s made improvements in multiple areas though. It’s worth a look.

Paul Millsap will sign with the Nets.

It kind of sucks how NY & LA get all of the good veteran minimums. I get it, if I was a player I'd rather live in LA or NY during an NBA season that much of the country.

Maybe each team should have bonus's they can give on their veteran minimum contracts.... like the first one a team gives to one player is for an extra $2 million, the second one an extra million, etc so teams like the Nets can't have 5 veteran minimum contracts for great players while other teams get scrubs.

The Nets have DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, possibly Aldridge, and Durant plays at PF too?

I don't see how these big guys all are happy with minutes. Besides Durant they all might be most effective at Center, I don't know how any of those others chase around modern quick PF's.

Don't need a lot of PT if you're just ringchasing, I suppose.

Plus none of those guys are the types to play 35 minutes a night any more

its insurance. When one breaks down, next man up. By the end of the season all of them will have had some run i bet. They will just be on a week, off a week, type of thing.

I think Portland could have a half dozen training camp contracts if they wanted.

Did Smith get waived by the Knickerbockers? Dude can play. Would be a terrific back up.

Neil loves former Lotto busts

Ennis & Hartenstein would be good additions. Hartenstein is a better player, right now, than Drummond. He's got skills. I wonder if he has character issues, cause he plays well, but doesn't stick anywhere.

Giles getting signed before Hartenstein and Ennis is a joke, swear he’s still living off his high school tape. The other two are legit rotational players. Even Patterson is more useful.

I’ve wanted Hartenstein for awhile but he’s pretty identical to Chriss. He is eligible for a two way though...

I’d also be surprised if Ennis had to settle for a training camp invite. I could totally see Patterson/Beasley get invited to camp though, with little to no chance of actually making the team.

So weird how Hartenstein hasn't stuck anywhere. In his minutes in Houston & Denver, he was very productive. I'd love to see the Blazers develop him. Plus he has that cool connection to the Blazers being a fan growing up in Eugene.

Yeah I don’t get it, he can play. He’s not much of an outside shooter though, so that probably plays into it a bit. He also fouls a lot. Still, a big that can defend, block shots, rebound, pass, score inside should have a place in the league. And he’s still only 23.

...sounds a lot like Z.Co -- minus the ruined foot (and possibly sideline dance moves) :dunno: bring him in ASAP!!
