How's everyone feel about Smokin' Joe Cronin now?

My assumptions arevbased on what you have written on this message board. I have/had no clue about your wardrobe purchases and what that means.

Let's back this up a bit. Do you think if the organization knowingly broke a league rule, then they should take primary ownership of any penalty that is levied on them for doing so? I do, which is why I'm not going to say it's Dame's fault.
No. I don’t. Because everyone has been doing it and nobody comes out and talks about it. Dame said the quiet bit out loud. Let’s not pretend that this is something that hasn’t been done for decades. So no I don’t think the Blazers should suddenly be punished for something everyone has done. I think the league changed the rules and now it’s clear that it won’t be tolerated. But pearl clutching over something that was a league practice for my entire life is bullshit. Maybe the league should start calling every single carry or every single travel or every tiny bit of contact. Maybe they should start massively penalizing players for talking with each other about joining up.

every time I participate in a food fight here, I feel bad for participating

every time I see a food fight here I'm not in, I feel glad I'm not participating

sadly, that probably a lesson I won't learn
We are debating a topic. It would be a food fight if I made it personal with Tince, which I won’t do because I respect him. Although he did try to psychoanalyze my feelings.

Hey judge, everyone else speeds, so why am I getting a ticket? Didn't the Mavs just get punished for tanking?

I'm open to the idea that tanking shouldn't be against the rules. There are major negatives to that and the league appears to be moving in the opposite direction of being pro-tanking.

At times I think I've learned this lesson, but clearly I haven't!

I have nothing but love for you and your feelings!

This isn't FoxNews and CNN. Give me a break. It's just Dame's narrative.

What's more likely: that the seemingly weaselly GM is actual that way or a guy who has been the same for 10 years is telling the truth?
Cronin had nothing to do with Dame's agent pulling that shit.

That was the problem.

After that it was bound to get weird.

It's funny that you bring that up, but driving with the flow of traffic is a real thing.

The Mavs got penalized for basically blatantly and openly tanking.... like.... not pretending there were injuries.

The issue isn't whether or not tanking is against the rules
The issue isn't whether or not the Blazers tanked
The issue isn't whether or not everyone knew the Blazers tanked.
The issue is that Dame gave the NBA the impetus to investigate the Blazers for tanking.

If my son drives recklessly, I'm unhappy with him. If he gets pulled over, I'm unhappy with him. If he gets cited, I'm unhappy with him.
If his girlfriend dumps him, and then sends the police video evidence that he was driving recklessly, and they begin investigating him as a result, I'll primarily be pissed at her.

Highkin thinks that the report that Goodwin spoke with Milwaukee and Brooklyn is bullshit. He thinks it's Goodwin trying to save face. I think Dame's reaction backs that up. Everything I have heard is that Dame was shocked. I don't think he would be shocked if he had said he'd be okay with Milwaukee.

Wes Goldberg is a moron. He just said that the Blazers got nothing for Damian Lillard.

I personally despise the idea of tanking. Frankly, I hate the fucking word. People seem to use the word as this all enveloping thing.

Playing the season with everything you have, and then when you see that a run is not possible.......substituting players for load management, offseason trade protection, and/or to aid in back up player/rookie development, is smart team management. Not using the full capacity of the salary structure, and dumping players to increase profits, is tanking. I find the use of the word offensive when it is used as a bullet point for any team that does not handle their business the way a fan wants them to.

This goes right with my original point of how tribalism allows people to shift ownership of an issue away from the guilty party they care about the most!

The new age parenting default: "It's not my kids fault!"

Man, a lot of these Miami guys can only see things through the lense of their team. No objectivity.

If Cronin can trade Jrue to Brooklyn for Simmons plus their 2027 (PHX) and 2028 (OWN) #1 picks,
I’m pleased with Cronin;

OUT
Nurkic (happy to see him go)
Little (always injured)
Johnson (won’t be in the league come 25-26 season
Dame (follow the yellow brick road!)

Also OUT by Sunday night
Jrue Holiday

IN as of Monday
Simmons
Ayton
Camara
#1 pick (Bucks)
#1 pick (PHX from Nets)
#1 pick (Nets)
#1 pick swap (Bucks)
#1 pick swap (Bucks)

It’s a haul and a rebuilding team with significant talent

I’m not sure how much value Simmons has. I’d like to see if they’d toss in Clowney.

When Goodwin and apparently Dame let it out to teams that Dame wouldn't go there they basically told teams not to talk to Joe about trading him. The league warned them. If I'm Joe I don't do anything to help Goodwin's standing amongst the league's execs and I don't honor his requests as he has just fucked up all my options. Joe won this sparring match and I don't blame him for it. Dame needs to fire Goodwin and I'll feel less bitter about what transpired. You warn teams not to call us and think we have to call Miami? Watch me make a deal in a week with the Bucks and Suns and come out of it with an Allstar and a former number 1 pick young center..you can keep Tyler T Rex Herro.

I like Nate Jones, but I take what he says (in regards to Damian) with an Antarctica sized grain of salt. Dude is on Dames payroll. He ain't no dummy.

A kid at my high school here in AZ asked me what I thought of the Lillard trade. I said that all 3 teams are happy with what they got according to their priorities … that that makes a good trade — non-zero sum game theory. I can see each team’s logic for the deal. I said the Miami trade just didn’t make sense for Portland, and it never grew into anything that did make sense.

Holiday > > > Herro. And it’s just not close. For a win now team, age 33 of Holiday is far down the list of what matters. He’s a stud defender and unselfish on O. And cheaper. Even before seeing what Cronin gets for Holiday, it’s not a tough call vs. anything Miami could have offered but didn’t.

He isn't the one who asked out. Try to keep up here. It's pretty obvious now that your mantra from the beginning has been way off.
The timeline doesn't lie.
Dame asked out and demanded Miami.
Then his agent went all out telling teams dame only wants Miami.
Then after the offers weren't good enough Dame went back and said he would be willing to stay until the deal with Miami worked out.
Joe said Sorry but that would not be best for the organization.
Joe traded Dame for a decent return and now has another very tradable piece that will make this move very good while getting Dame to a very good location.

Now you want to say "It's the way he did it".
Sorry but the stage was set and the band was playing.
Joe started dancing.

Now Dame in his letter says someday he wants to be a Blazer again And he really respects Jody. Not one mention of Paul Allen though.
The timeline starts before he asks out to Miami. Try to keep up. I've always said its about the way it happened. Goodwin made mistakes in the way he handled it. That has nothing to do with how Cronin handled things leading up to it. The relationship between he and Dame is sour. To put none of that on Joe is ridiculous.

Herro could've fetched a 1st. So for Holiday to not be close to him in terms of trade value, he better fetch much more than that.

You say. Reports are Cronin was scouring the league looking for that first for Herro and a decent return player(s). Obviously he was not impressed. I doubt Herro is worth a first and probably would not bring a good player or contract in return to Portlands liking. I am confident Jrue will provide a nice return. I won't be hyperbolic though. I will wait for the trade and judge it and the entire Dame deal when completed.

I'd be very surprised if Herro couldn't fetch a 1st.

Regardless, Clippers 2028/2030 unprotected 1sts with expirings is my tipping point. Anything less is a failure. Anything more is a win.

Nobody anywhere I have read is "Not putting any of it on Joe". The one thing everyone seems to forget is Lillard went on record before the draft and said he would not be open to playing if they kept that pick. Lillard said it out loud for all to hear. Including Joe.
