I'm fine with trading CJ eventually, but personally I question anyone who thinks trading him for Love is a good idea. Everything I've heard so far is that teams calling Cleveland for Love look at him as having negative value.
Biggest knock on him i have heard is health? We all know the guy can play. You are not getting out of the CJ contract easily. This would shorten and reduce the pain a bit. Maybe make it easier to lose Whiteside though i doubt we ever get a rim protector like that again anytime soon.

You think a player can't get out of a contract if both sides agree? You think ANY CBA could block that?
do you think in amy way he want

IMO CJ is an easy contract to move, he is a positive asset even with his new contract. IMO we could get solid value back or a substantial reduction is salary with expirings/decent asset coming back

Am I crazy for thinking the league used to be way more talented overall?

I'm looking around the league and I'm just not seeing very many talented wings. I really think players aren't developing up from high school and college the way they used to.

Their calling for Love but thinks he has negative value... So then why are they calling for him...?
Is the thought they can pick up other assets (picks) if they take on Love, it seems unlikely that a rebuilding team is going to give up a pick to get rid of Love?
The report was that teams that had contacted Cleveland was asking for THEM to include a 1st round pick for taking on Love's contract. This is why Love is getting more and more frustrated because Cleveland won't do that obviously and they think they should be getting assets for him so a trade might not even happen this year.

First of all, Cleveland has taken two guards in the last two drafts and are rebuilding so why would they want CJ if his contract isn't easy to get out of?

Second of all, probably because of the injuries but Love isn't that great of a player anymore. He's way too slow now to play PF defensively and not tall enough to be a legit rim protector. That's not going to change as he gets older. So playing him at PF makes our defense worse and offensively he's a good passer and can post up a bit but CJ does just about everything else better. At best it's a lateral move switching one problem to a different position.

Third of all, it should only take expirings and minor assets to get Love. Anything more than that and you outbid against yourself.

CJ is better than what they have and he is a hometown hero. A Love/CJ trade makes too much sense.

CJ can contribute right now. The Cavs didn't really expect to be dealing Love at this point is what i'm thinking also. They just signed him right? Think it has more to do with getting rid of Love at this point.

Well now that doesn't work when you have the highest payroll in the league. I guess you go for Whiteside but like i said. I would rather give CJ and let 1M play. Then use Whiteside and Baze for more upgrades. Like Jrue Holiday? Kyle Kuzma? How about Derozan? Heck even work that the other way. Get Love for expirings and go for one of those three with CJ.

Here are my problems with that deal:

1. Love's contract is horrendous. $30 million a year for three more years. At 31 years old, and with as many injuries as he's had, taking on that money is dreadful.

2. His stats this year are 16.4 PPG and 10.3 TRB, with a PER of 18. Those stats aren't worth max money, especially with as many injuries as Love has had.

3. CJ has his issues, but he's still young and can be an amazing scorer. If the Blazers decide they want to trade him, they can get more for him than Kevin Love.

4. Love isn't a piece that the Blazers really need long term. With Nurk coming back in February and Collins likely back before the end of the year, the C and PF spots are taken care of with players who are much better from a value standpoint. Collins is on an upward path. Kevin Love isn't.

5. If the Blazers are going to trade CJ, get a true SF for him. Simons may grow into a very good backcourt running mate for Dame, but the glaring need for this team is a talented true SF.

Now on this point i totally agree. I believe CJ could bring more, and or a better fit in return.

I’ll bet on not Jaynes.
To be fair to all involved, they're all being dumb here because Love doesn't have a no trade clause so his preferred destination means squat.

Cleveland should get the best offer and take it.

The thing I keep coming back to is that when a rumored deal or preferred landing spot become public it rarely happens. It is usually just agents trying to boost interest and value. Regardless of fit or contract I don’t see him coming here. If someone were to happen with love it would be surprising at this point.

Sometimes the rumors are right: Melo to NY, Melo to Portland, AD to Lakers.

Olshey is pretty predictable. Love is definitely a guy he likes. Idk about the contract, but when has that ever stopped him

what rumor? I haven't seen a single rumor. All I've seen so far is simple conjecture, and a lot of it is simple-minded
What I guess I mean is sometimes the obvious deal happens. We have expiring contracts, Love wants to be in Portland. Makes sense.

This is code for either "I found out I'm not getting traded" or "I'm sending a message to my new teammates that I will not be such a dick"
Definitely the second one. "Please, please don't hold this against me, and get me out of this godforsaken hole"

Like it or not the Blazers are getting desperate. They don't have time to sit back and keep playing the waiting game. Dame's going to be 30 and the Blazers haven't had much luck in the free agent department.

I don't see how this relates to wizenheimer's post that there are no credible rumors about Love getting traded to the Blazers. You keep bringing it up. Guys like Charles Barkley mention it from time to time just because they think the Blazers need to make a move and the salary numbers for Whiteside and Love match. The only thing missing is someone like Woj saying that there's actually trade talk going on about this. Well, that and a report that the Cavs have dirt on Olshey or that his brain has somehow become infected with a nasty virus that would make him so mentally incapacitated as to actually contemplate such a stupid move.
