Malcolm Brogdon trade ideas

we don’t need to give up an asset to get our pick back right now, it’s not going to convey for 2-3 years at the minimum, if ever

that's both kind of true and kind of false

the thing is, if the Blazers got that pick back at the deadline, then, going into the 2024 draft (and the off-season), instead of 3 future first's and two future swaps available, Portland would have 9-10 potential future first's and 2 swaps available as leverage in trade talks. Significant difference, especially considering how valuable Portland's unencumbered 1st's will be over the next 3-4 years

it would also cancel the somewhat remote possibility that the Blazers could get completely shafted in the 2028 draft

But isn't the problem that, if they have that pick, it prevents us from trading any other picks (because of Stepien rules)?

Yes - the Stepien rules could be a problem. But IMO, that concern is overstated.

Again - the best way to look at the pick we owe Chicago, is that it's value is a '26 pick in the 14-20 range. If we get a trade offer that nets a better return you take that.... but getting the Portland pick back represents good value.

The Stephan rule was put into place because idiot GM’s like the New Jersey one got completely fleased by Danny Ainge. It’s amazing how we can sit here on this board and evaluate trades and say that one was dumb or that one was really smart, and more times than not we’re right. I’m very happy with the return that we got for Dame, especially if we can get another pic or two for Brogdon. Disappointing Williams was hurt so quickly though. We need to get a good 2025 pic if any of our players are moved, no more 2024s

A couple of unprotected pick swaps are always nice to have as well

Can you imagine how cool that would be to have like the 24th pick in the first round having made it deep into the playoffs, then swap your pic for a teams top three choice and get a fabulous player. That’s going to happen and when it does those pic swaps are going to be worth a lot more than people think they are, as long as they’re unprotected. I noticed Oklahoma snuck its way into the Clippers Philly trade and acquired an unprotected Clippers pick swap offering a very limited first round choice in 2026. Oklahoma City is building something amazing.

Wish Oklahoma was back in Seattle. That I could kinda root for them.

I bet Thibs would like this:

Obviously the ex-Raptors can't be traded, but you can replace them with JOSH HART and it works, and he probably would get diminished PT anyway if the Knicks got Brogdon and Grant, but I doubt he'd be happy to come back to an even crappier Blazers team than he left...

Other downside is that we could add Robinson to our own Timelord to the collection of always-injured-centers. But the Knicks don't have a great range of tradeable contracts.
The Knicks want to use draft picks and pick swaps plus Fournier ....I heard the Knicks locked on guy talking trades with Richman and he said they would love Brogdan and Badji but would offer Fournier and a second round pick for them. Knicks don't have enough talent to compete for Brogdan or Grant in my view....Precious can't catch a basketball according the the conversation they had. We can do better and with more teams than just one. I don't see us waiving anyone to get the Knicks bottom of the bench players. Richman said Brogdan was worth 2 first rounders. Grimes is being dangled to Atlanta for something they want apparently.

Lol, I’d just keep him around the most we get is a 2nd. I value 2nds, but most people don’t. In a case like this where NY would be blatantly disrespecting us, I’d laugh and hang up.

Yeah Precious always reminded me to TRob, Chriss, those guys.

The most realistic Knicks trade proposal online I’ve seen is Brogdon for their lotto protected ‘25 1st and a future 2nd + Fournier’s salary.

I could do without the 2nd, but a ‘25 1st would be very good. Get another one from a potential Grant deal, or trading out of one of our lotto picks, and we’ll have three cracks in the ‘25 draft.

Ace Bailey, here we come!

My thoughts on Quentin Grimes:

Personally, I’m a no on Quentin Grimes, but ONLY because we already have three guys in Scoot, Shae, and Ant. If Ant were to be sent off for a young prospect + 2 1sts or something like that at the deadline, I’d be much more open to the idea.

If it were Scoot, Shae, and Grimes, I’d be alot of interested in a Knicks deal. Grimes could possibly even start over Scoot if we were starting players based on production. And in all honesty, I’d love a rotation of 6’3.75 Scoot, 6’5.25 Grimes, and 6’6 Shae (in shoes). But without a potential Ant trade, I’m not all that interested.

I would take Fournier and a FRP for Malcolm, as long as the FRP is guaranteed to convey at some point... I think that's a fine trade. Fournier isn't guaranteed anything next season so we could just buy him out if we wanted.

Honestly, I really want to pry that Lakers ‘29 1st from them. I think this is Lebron’s last year as a Laker, and I don’t think they’d be much better even with Brogdon.

Ha, I don't mind them now as I don't know anyone from OKC.
Seattle, on the other hand, has an unlimited amount of people who would annoy me if their team was good.

OK, people say Orlando won't want Grant. Don't really agree but instead of Grant and Brogdon, I'll send Simons and Brogdon for Isaac, Jett Howard, Suggs and Carter. No draft picks.

Not really interested in that package. Like, at all. The time to trade for Suggs would’ve been in the offseason, I don’t think Magic are looking to get rid of him.

I know it is inevitable that Brogdon will get traded, but I will miss him. I really enjoy watching him run the offense.
It is very methodical.

Pacer fan forums gushing about Grant. Funny because he does not get a lot of love here.

Last night he played FABULOUS. That was perennial All-Star level play. I love to see that.

So frequently Grant plays like he's going through the motions & giving 1/2 effort

I have to wonder if moving to SF boosts his output. Banging on big bodies in the paint takes a ton of energy.

I'm pretty sure they keep Grant around. Brogdan I can see them moving but to me, Ant is the guy to get you some trade value

im not sure if Ant holds more value to other teams than Malcom. Ant is a lot of isolation and Brogdon seems to be able to play within a system more. Makes less mistakes and just seems more rounded overall. If Malcom keeps his game up like he has, I could see getting a better return than we could for Ant.
all depends o the trade partner needs though.
