It's at this point of your post that I simply quit reading.
No it was not "Inevitable".

It was inevitable eventually (once Dame retires / injured / declines).

The only way it would have been eliminated in the interim when Cronin got the job was if he got super lucky in the trade market or the draft (Wemby). That did not happen in the 18 months he was in charge while acquiring assets, so given that the Wemby dream did not happen, the only other option given the roster was time to build assets and pounce when that opportunity came in the trade market, and Dame did not want to wait, which is fair enough, but it is not Cronin's fault.

Basically, if Cronin traded the assets he acquired in 18 months to keep Dame around, it would have, at most, given the Blazers a chance at the 2nd round built around an aging, super expensive player. So, we just would have delayed the inevitable a year or 2.

All roads lead to Rome, and Rome for all purposes is the draft suckage and rebuild cycle for a team in Portland's situation. Accepting it makes life easier.

Well said. And if we had waited a few more years we wouldn't have gotten near the return on Dame.

I would have been alright with that. But I understand Dame wanting to be traded. Sucks that there are bad feelings. I hope they don't last.

It’s just my opinion but I do feel it’s time to stop supporting the team in any way until it’s sold.
You won’t see me buying tickets to games this year. If they can get something going I’ll consider buying again next season.

OK. Glad to hear that we are finally in agreement that this had nothing to do with how Cronin played it.

Even if the tix are free?

For me, it is the opposite. While competing is a couple of years away, I am excited to see the young guys grow. I personally have not expected us to have a legit shot since Oden's knee exploded. We had a slight chance with LA his last years here, but always thought we had a ceiling with our undersized backcourt once he walked.

Enjoy the cheaper tickets while we can IMO.

Totally understand this position. Cronin had to make hard choices. Not something I have or will ever hold against him.
My problem..(Understand that I do understand It's my problem) stands with this franchise continually making poor moves. It's not even only Olshey though he was a huge problem. Just the Dame era has some huge organizational mistakes. Why was Aldridge left to walk away? Why was 2016 so bad? What's up with Legacy Melo? Looks like Billups might be another mistake? Previous GM's made a bunch of errors as well.
Is this GM going to be different? I sure hope so.

All those decisions were Olshey and company.

Hence, the inevitable position we are in. We were gonna get here unless we got Wemby. That's it. That was our only saving grace to keep dame cause there were no assets available to us to get a now player. Nor were any available anyway lol.

Living within the confines of reality, barring extreme luck that did not come to fruitation, it'll always be surprising that people are shocked we ended up here.

The Dame era was indeed Olshey. However Chad Buchanan, Rich Cho and Kevin Pritchard have had their issues as well.

Nah. If the tix are free there isn't much point in going. I really am not entertained by Douglas Fir or the Trail Cat. I do have to admit that chick that spins the dishes is fun to watch though.

awww man, i know you have more spirit than that! Free as in gifted!

Seriously, this is the least likely season for a meltdown in a long long time. Expectations are low and I don't think people are too attached to any player on this roster that might leave in a trade. Barring catastrophic injury which we are all probably conditioned to fear, I don't see anyone having a legit reason to meltdown for a while.
Told you people would meltdown, and immediately. Also as though we were contenders who were expected to dominate right out of the gate. It's as predictable as it is hilarious. We are going to lose a ton this year. I'm still extremely excited to see Scoot, Sharpe, Ayton and Camara develop and nothing has changed over two games.

The most hilarious part is that going 0-&2 wouldn’t guarantee us the number one pick. We could theoretically drop to 4th lol.
4th pick... nice. There might be a 19yr old guard avaliable that will take a few years to develop.

The Meltdowns are many right now.
Pretty much about that #3 pick the Blazers wouldn't trade to keep Lillard.
I'm on record wanting that pick traded for players that would help Lillard.
I'm on record not wanting to give Grant all that money.
I'm also on record wanting Nurk gone. (Can't be right all the time).

I assume this is where we talk about getting outscored 26-2 over the final 8 minutes of a game, yeah?

You know? It was almost like you knew they weren't going to score? I was watching every open look they had bounce off various parts of the Backboard, Rim, Goal standard. Sometimes nothing at all?

That's what happens when you have guys who don't pass the ball in at crunch time. The defense knows what's up, so those guys get off balance, contested looks, and they are playing Hero Ball.
But they aren't good enough players to do that, so you swap the H for a Z...

Yeah gotta let the kids shoot and if they miss then they can live with it. If they make it they gain a bunch of confidence.
