Layman and Vohleh were on the bench too...so that's Fetus, Shabazz, Layman, Harkless and Vonleh kept pretty much out of action....trade bait?

That's a lot of guys....Whiteside trade?

Pure speculation on my part.

Just maybe Festus’s hug fest last night was a real goodbye, BUT, for a different reason than a trade.

Maybe NO informed his agent that his non-guaranteed contract would not be picked up next season, duh. And for Festus to take the rest of the season off, with pay. This would give Festus a stress free way to get healthy, and possibly have a shot at a contract next season, with a different team.

Also, it will be interesting to see if Okafor actually plays in tonight’s game.

I just find it odd that instead of feeling hopeful because of these rumors I feel a little dread
I'm with you there. Why do I have this feeling that we're gonna get some half-assed center that won't really make a difference???

And let an asset walk away?Olshey isn't that nice

Isn't that what he's been doing all year?

Festus is attractive to any team needing to shed salary....and most of the contenders need to shed some salary

Ok but no. You're wrong.
What's his value though? Maybe a late second round pick. He hasn't been able to play all season and will likely be unavailable until next season. Even getting him for next season makes little sense as he will take $7M of cap space and may never play.

Ezeli, Harkless, and a first round to Phoenix for Chandler and a side piece

Or

Ezeli, Harkless, and a first round for Noel + a side piece...
This first one feels like a shitty outcome waiting to happen. The second one is probably, sorta, maybe close. Depends on what Philly wants and what kind of other offers are out there.

Whispers going around on another board that Ezeli is getting waived. Wouldn't make much sense to me, but whatever.

His second year is non-guaranteed, so it's an easy way for a team to dump payroll if they trade someone making a similar amount per year but over more years.

I think that expiring deals aren't going to be super-valuable, but it is a minor trade asset.

I will be very underwhelmed if Portland gives up real assets for Okafor. I think his upside is Enes Kanter and he's not very close to that upside right now. Right now, he really does nothing well--not even inside scoring, which was supposed to be what was going to immediately transfer to the NBA.

That's funny that Okafor is back in the rotation hmmm makes you think.

Noel is expected to start while Embiid rests and Okafor will probably see some time with the 2nd unit.

His value in teams that want to shed salary, to get below the cap and/or to create room for the off-season to sign a free agent. There are teams that will look for that, it's all strategy.

OK, but we do not want long term salary coming back for an expiring contract, which would make our LT problem much worse. There would need to be a third team involved.

If medical insurance cover the loss...I can see it ..otherwise it's silly not to move him to another team that could waive him for a draft pick at least

Anyone see this tweet from quick about Ezeli?
Sorry I don't j ow how to copy a tweet hete on my phone but he said....

I've referred to Jahlil Okafor as Marreese Speights 2.0. Very similar players, very similar production at a comparable age. Ironic that Speights also started his career in PHI.

Like Speights, Okafor's weak defense may relegate him to a career coming off the bench. Sure, he's still very young and could start for a bad team that didn't have any other options, but I just don't seem him ever becoming a quality starting center on a playoff team.

PHI is winning with Embid and Noel coexisting, but I question if that is sustainable. They are both great rim protectors, but Embiid is much better offensively and frankly, more likable. He has quickly become a fan favorite and the face of the rebirth of that franchise.

Forcing Noel to play out of position at PF doesn't maximize his talents. Forcing him to come off the bench at 22 probably doesn't sit too well with him, either. He's definitely a MUCH better fit in POR than Okafor. Sure, I'd take Okafor as an instant offense 6th man type, but I wouldn't give up much to get him. Noel is still my first choice as his strengths address our major weaknesses.

It's why it could be a trade, as long as quick isn't hamming it up. Deal isn't completely done, and can't be completed anyway until tonight, so Quick was told to shut up.

Okafor would be an interesting addition to the team. He's shown flashes of being a very good post player. I think he'd bring what Greg Monroe would have brought, and we know Olshey liked Monroe.

It would remind me a bit of getting Rasheed. A young former lottery pick who really blossomed with the Blazers.

Except for the fact that Sheed played defense.

Okafor, because of his weak defense, is a net negative player. Last year you could kind of gloss over that because the entire PHI team was a net negative. This year, Embiid and Noel (small sample size) are both net positive, while Okafor continues to have a net negative impact on his team's performance.

We already have one of the worst defenses in the league. Do we really want to get worse on that side of the court?

This.....we need defenders way more

I agree we need defense, but at the end of the day. Even if Portland were to get DJ, we wouldn't be winning a ring this year.
I personally believe that a lineup of has a chance to hang a banner in a couple years.

Lillard
CJ
Crabbe or Turner
Plumlee or Aminu
Okafor

While putting Noel or Chandler in there would equal a ceiling of 2nd round.
