Merged: The Draft Thread For Stuff About The Draft Including Thoughts About The Draft

NBA draft.net historically isn't terribly accurate while DE is pretty reliable

That is the case more recently but several years back, NBA Draft.net was the more accurate site. One of their key staff left and it hasn't been the same since.

Guys I'd trade up to 7/8 for

Isaac
Zach Collins
Monk
Love Isaac and Collins but Monk man I just see Jamal Crawford whenever I watch him. Which I love cause J crossover is filthy and I would pick him first if this was a pickup game in the park but the NBA is a whole different deal. His elite shot making and handle will keep him in the nba for a long time but he's not an allstar IMO probably a multiple 6th man of the year player. Collins and Isaac both could be allstars at some point in their careers. I would reach for Collins before I go with Monk is I guess what I'm saying cause I dont like Markkanen that much and everyone else in that range is a g-pg.

Fair enough, although an elite 6th man sounds pretty intriguing to me.

As they say: "It's difficult to find players with his size and length who can make shots from beyond the arc, handle the ball and also demonstrate potential defensively on the perimeter."
But: "With that said, Bolden's mentality doesn't always match the potential he demonstrates in flashes. He tends to get pushed around mercilessly by stronger players at the power forward position, and especially at center where he sees minutes as well. He gets buried under the rim frequently and moved around in the post with ease. He has a thin frame that may struggle to put on a great deal of bulk, and he doesn't show the level of physicality and intensity you might hope to compensate for his lack of strength. Bolden's focus tends to waver from possession to possession and it's not rare to see him lose his man off the ball. He plays very upright at times and doesn't always bother getting in a defensive stance, allowing himself to get buried under the rim without resistance. This shows up most vividly on the defensive glass, where he rarely boxes out, is often flat-footed as the ball comes off the rim, and tends to get moved around by stronger players without fighting back. He was very foul prone this season at 4.3 fouls per-40 minutes, after averaging 3.7 per-40 at UCLA."

Sounds like he's just young and needs to mature. :dunno:

Some will and some won't, or at least not at the rate needed to be successful. Which group does Bolden ultimately fall under? Who knows, but past indicators aren't helping his argument. That's what makes it a lot harder to project these guys than most on here think.

I looked at nbadraft.net the other day, and they had OG as a 2nd round pick.

I didn't see any other site (only looked at like 3 or 4) that had him go past 16.

We should choose Giles at #26 because we are experts at paying for injured players throughout the duration of their contract. However, without sarcasm, I'm liking Ferguson at the #15 pick.76146ed26d255935a8a855943f8d957a.jpg What Portland Oregon must be imagined by basketball draft picks................

I am unable to hear the podcast while at work. Are you able to provide a condensed transcript?
some notes... more transcribing later:

- GS is staring down the barrel of a $1.4 billion cost to keep this team together for the next four years. They'll go for it given their high revenues.
- The moment Bron won his title last year he felt liberated. Lebron's future in CLE is uncertain given that he won't win against GS these next few years. This directly impacts the east teams and their upcoming building efforts. CLE needs to build both short term and keep in mind that they need to plan if Bron leaves next summer. David Griffin's future is uncertain.
- No scenario where Chris Paul, Griffin, and JJ are all back in LA. Look for JJ to go east-- he has a lot of options. Spurs and Rockets might get involved in pursuing Paul but lot of maneuvering required for these teams to pay him, and he will have to give up $ to go away from LA.
- Blake Griffin is at the top of BOS' FA list along with Hayward. Clips know this and the interest in Blake-BOS is mutual.
- Melo could be an option for LA, but Melo has not yet decided to waive his no-trade clause. He's got issues and decisions to make about whether he wants to leave NY. He wants to outlast Phil in NY-- if he does accept a deal, he wants to go to LA. But this timing depends on Chris Paul and his decision.

More:

- Raptors in a kinda similar situation as Clips but they have at least some decent younger prospects to build with. Lowry and Ibaka contracts will both be a negotiation, but they will still have Lebron's future in CLE before going all in.
- This is Boston's last year to be a player in the FA market.
- Restricted FA (referenced Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe): Brooklyn wreaked havoc on the league on RFAs last summer. KCP and Otto Porter at the top of BK's list to do something similar this year.
- There's growing speculation that Hayward will leave UTA, but if he walks away, this will be a tortured decision for him given his history. If he leaves, it won't be for basketball reasons.
- Market this year will settle and there won't be as much of a shock as we saw last year in FA $. A third of the league has significant capspace, but the majority of those teams aren't very good. Will be interesting to see if guys take discount to stay with their current good teams vs get a raise with bad teams. Keep an eye on Joe Ingles/ Iggy/ Tony Snell (4yrs/50mil) as candidates to get $$. Higher MLE this year will also keep $ #s down.
- Wings who can defend and shoot are a hot commodity again.
- Warriors have made it a bit harder for teams to actively go out and spend too much.
- In the draft, Top 5 is in "flux." Josh Jackson has moved himself for consideration at #1 (whoa). LA likes him too, and multiple GMs have said he might be the best player in this draft. Sac might make a move if the PGs aren't available at their pick. They won't move 5 and 10 to move up to 3, but they could move 5 and a player, or a 2nd rounder to try to move up. There could be some action even with all the gamesmanship and smokescreens.

Hopefully Hayward goes back east, that should bump us up past them.

Here's an interesting way of thinking about the draft. Instead of thinking about who you want at 15 and 20 think of making a list of 7-8 guys that you would be happy with the combination of any 2.

Take it another level and make a list of 13-14 guys you would be happy with a combination of any 3.

Also make a list of your top 15 that you would want for the Blazers. We are assured one of them. And then during the draft when a different player is selected that is not on that list...... the number of options for Portland increases.

Actually maybe we just make a list of our top 9 favorites and exclude the top 6 we know that will be gone: Fultz, Ball, Fox, Tatum, Issac and Jackson.

Think we can all agree on a short list?

Monk and Smith are also guaranteed to be gone before we pick, and Ntilikina is pretty much a top-10 lock as well.

This draft is so unbelievably deep, I think it is much easier to make a list of the top 3 players we DON'T want... here is mine:

1. Ivan Rabb
2. TJ Leaf
3. Kyle Kuzma

Most other players in draft have at least some quality I can get excited about.

Yeah that makes sense. That brings us to 9, maybe we identify 1 more that is no brainer to make a top 10 list. (Maybe Markkanen?)

Now we make an additional list of 10 who we would be fine taking with 15 and 20. We would be assured to get 2 players off of that list.

Here is my 2nd top 10 (That does not include the real top 10)

I would not mind having 2 of these guys (15/20)

Mitchell
Zach Collins
OG Anunoby
Justin Jackson
Patton
Allen
Leaf
Giles
Ferguson
John Collins

^^^ I wouldn't mind starting with Jackson. I think he is one of the most contribution ready players available.

The only thing that would ruin my draft night is if we pick Ivan Rabb... if you look up mediocre in dictionary you will see his picture... a no upside journeyman... another Ed Davis

Dozier vs. Blossomgame workout + interview. God I hope we find a way to get this kid.
