By Joe not accepting Miami's offer or not even engaging with them and by saying "if it take months it take months," it is implied he is ok with keeping Dame.

And by saying he is open to:
- one win-now player
- promising young players and picks
- or only picks

That is him telling Dame, "Give me more options if you wanna be traded."

That'll be clear to Dame if he's still a Blazer when the season starts. I wonder if that was what he thought the worst-case scenario was.

I don't think Boston wants to pay Brown even close to 35% of their cap, and they're holding out hope that they can trade him for Dame.

Dame's making that same huge supermax salary in year 3&4 so thats not really a difference. However with Brown, Boston would have to give him a year 5 and 6 too - although with him being younger you'd think that might not be as concerning.

He will sign with Boston, the only team that can offer him the most money and years.

But he can "request" a trade the next opportunity he can.

I am not saying he will or will not.

I am saying the NBA needs to address this situation.

He should only be allowed to make the supermax while playing for the only team that can offer it to him.

If he is traded (because the player asked for it), his contact must be adjusted. (lowered) accordingly.

If he is traded (but the player did not ask for it) his contract remains intact.

He won't be traded for a year if he signs with Boston.

But if Boston is unwilling to give him that much money, they will ship him out.

The idea was Brown would go to a 3rd team, not to PDX. Brown is not going to want to resign in PDX if he is traded for Dame. Plus he doesn't make any sense for the rebuilding Blazers. Dame and Brown are very close - the idea was Brown would possibly come here to play with Dame.

I actually wouldn't be surprised at all if this is what lead to Dame's trade request and him going scorched earth. Perhaps Brown and Boston had decided they would do a trade sending him to PDX for 3 and Ant. But Cronin declined. I could see Dame being beyond furious with that - especially with all the rhetoric the last 6-18 months from Cronin and the Blazers.

I'd have made the trade if that was on the table and brought Brown here to win now. But theres some legit downside, Brown will be extremely highly paid, and Scoot looks like a stud. So there is a reasonable opinion either way on that deal.

But if he did come out and say he wanted to play with Scoot..... would you keep him?
 
My understanding is that after Joe's presser at summer league he had asked for 2 young starter quality players and 4 good first round picks and Miami hung up the phone. They countered with Herro, filler and 3 firsts and Joe hung up the phone. Miami's first round picks are usually late first rounders as they almost always are in the playoffs.

I don't think that's realistic. Even if Brown said something now about wanting to be here; the Blazers couldn't extend him and I wouldn't want to risk him walking. It would also depend what the haul was available from the 3rd team - Houston/OKC/etc.

In theory there might be an argument to keep Brown. But then we'd kind of be back to the two timeline's thing. Brown would also have the same issue as Dame here where we probably aren't bad enough to get ideal draft picks nor good enough to contend. Also Brown's game is much more based on athleticism and may decline sharply in his 30's - so he doesn't have the extra years over Dame that their age's would suggest.

So yeah if 10 different events all exactly happened at the same time and without better options to where Brown for Dame close to straight up made sense maybe I guess by default yes I'd consider it. I just don't think there is even a remote longshot chance those events will all happen congruently, or that Brown in PDX will be the best option available.
 
One thing for sure..Herro is not going to be happy in Portland or Miami at this point. He has to get out. I heard he's working out with Bridges in the Big Apple this summer.

This fucking national media stuff is so nuts. Whoever the dude is on Get Up who is speaking with Jay Will sucks at his job. He mumbles through the Le Batard quote so badly the first time that Jay makes him repeat it, I'm still not sure he got the quote right. They both express outrage as they should IMO about Le Batard bringing skin color into this. Then the dumbass shits the bed by saying Herro comes off the bench. Herro started 67 of the 67 regular season games he played this season and the only playoff game he played in this year. The funny think is Maxey on the other hand only started 41 of the 60 regular season games and did start all 11 post season games this season.

God these dumbasses can't even get shit right when they're correcting other dumbasses for getting shit wrong.

Brown is 26. Scoot is more like a 23-year old.
There is no reason to wait to win with Scoot.
Win now with Scoot and Brown.

I was on board for trading for Brown. I don't think it would have elevated us to top tier status so i'm glad we didn't in the end

The Blazers would be a playoff team this coming season.
Brown is exactly the type of player the Blazers need. He can make a key defensive play and convert it to points by himself. He can hit game-winning shots if needed.
But he doesn't need to be a primary ball handler. He can wait for an expertly-thrown pass by Scoot.

The only way we get Brown this season is if he's a rental. Do we want a rental for Dame? As soon as he signs that supermax (if the Celtics give it to him) he can't be traded for a calendar year and if he is traded everyone in the league can offer him the same contract this offseason.
 
Scoot , Sharpe, Brown, Grant. That's like 4 borderline All Star talents, if not next season, sometime soon. With defensive upside.

That's the caveat. I'm just considering if Brown would be a good fit. The financials are obviously important too.
