OT MLB to PDX: We're talking baseball to PDX (6 Viewers)

I don't watch baseball anymore. It was my favorite sport for years. I just got sick and tired of being the only person of ny group of friends who was interested in it. It's just easier to follow football because at least you have something to talk about around the water cooler. Kudos if they can get it going in Portland but I don't care any more. The worst thing in the world is to love a sport that is dying in front of you. Well I am not sticking around for the wake.
I agree and I love Baseball and played many years!
If they would limit the amount of middle relievers and shorten the game some alone with maybe expanding the playoffs some with a new marketing approach maybe it would re-engerize the sport some beyond war babies like me. Im a purest and never wanted to endorse the idea of playoff expansion but it would help promote the game. Other sports have proven that.

Well this sure disappeared quickly didn't it? Barrett got us all excited, And for what?

Yea I agree. All they seem interested in is peddling their merchandise. Barrett said “4-6 weeks” on land purchase back in early July. That tells you enough right there how legitimate they are..

A new t-shirt store is just as good as a baseball team, isn't it?

This "delay" is precisely why I didn't get too excited about this.

The thing that still gives me hope is that MLB seems to want one more team somewhere in the western part of the country. Las Vegas just built an arena and is currently building a football stadium. I guess they could get baseball too but that seems like a stretch. What other cities would even be in play at that point?

Mexico City? Vancouver? Sacramento? Salt Lake?

I guess, none of those cities really scare me right now. I'm not sure Mexico City will be a viable place to have a full-time team. Vancouver doesn't scream baseball city to me and they lost the NBA already. Sacramento almost lost their NBA team too and is really close to existing teams. Salt Lake could be a candidate but I'd have to think Portland would be higher on the list.

Guarantee MLB has requested that they wait until after the post season ends to make any announcements such as land acquisition and stadium designs. MLB doesn't want any thunder stolen from the playoffs.

Where you think the land they bought is located ?

I hope the town gets a team before baseball dies out. Since that seems to be what the world wants.

Seems like this country wants it too. That's the reason I don't watch it anymore. I couldn't watch something I love slowly die.

I think there's just too many people who love the game... Now, in 100 years? Yeah, probably. But not in the next 50 years. And by that time, I'm getting a scrub down from Patty, whose been at her job way too long and has unneeded resentment towards me.

I got sick of being being criticized for liking a sport it's cool to bash. It got to the point where if I'm at a sports bar, ask to watch a baseball game, I got groans. So I was about ready to punch somebody in the mouth. And then the same people will bitch about how there is no parity in basketball and they all hate the Warriors. People are fucking sheep but they are also a fucking mob who have to have something to tear down. But I'd rather be able to talk about last nights game with somebody than never talking about it at all.

Cuckzano posted an article saying there would be an announcement after the WS, so that sounds right.

Their loss. I don't listen to what people say I should like.

Ya they will announce the location after the world series is over. HUGE announcement coming!

So uh, do you guys think there's any chance they pivot over to buy the Blazers now?

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels opted out of their Angel Stadium lease with the city of Anaheim on Tuesday, renewing the possibility they could build a stadium somewhere near their longtime Orange County home.

The team and the city will negotiate on a new deal to keep the Angels in the fourth-oldest ballpark in the major leagues. The Angels also will renew their explorations of the feasibility of building a stadium elsewhere in Southern California.

"As we look to the future, we need the ability to continue to deliver a high-quality fan experience beyond what the original lease allows," Angels president John Carpino said in a statement. "It is important that we look at all our options and how we can best serve our fans now and in the future."

The Angels terminated their lease on the last day possible before 2028. The decision means the club has the ability to leave Angel Stadium after the 2019 season.

"It's today, or 10 years from now," Angels spokesperson Marie Garvey said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "There's no option in between."

Garvey added that the team will sit down with the mayor and city council after elections next month and look at the team's options.

Yesterday on 1080 they had an interview with former OSU Beaver, Darwin Barney who is an investor and will be involved in the Portland Diamond Project. I think it was Issac and Suke.

I can't believe this hasn't been talked about in here already.

Because most don't think it's actually going to happen. Portland has small town thinking leadership
