This why I don't eat "the fear of the cow"!

Alright, so who will be calling the games for us?
Who is our starting pitcher on Opening Day and lastly,
who comes off the bench and do we play a zone?
Barrett

Barrett

Yes

Let me save you some reading

1. Enter cathedral
2. Eat hot dog or nachos
3. Drink beer (repeat this several times)
4. Hang out with friends or date
5. Pay attention when ball is thrown
6. Dont care about score because PDX will likely rarely compete due to market size, so RELAX

Market size doesn't really have the impact in baseball like it does in basketball.

I'm sure this was asked before, but if Portland gets an MLB team, would they host the MLB all star weekend before the Blazers host the NBA all star weekend?

Nah. Not enough hotel space. Or so I’ve heard.

Moreso.

There is no salary cap, so teams like the Yankees, Cubs, RedSox, etc. reside in the 150 mm plus range, while league average is about half that.

Teams can rise up from time to time, but mostly the Pirates of the world aren't there

That is why I want an expansion team. If done right they could follow an Astros/Royals type blueprint and just focus on developing young players for a few years and then hopefully pop a couple years before all those players need new contracts.

So if we DO get a team, will we be in the NW division still with Utah, Minny, OKC and Denver?
And how many team’s make the playoffs, the normal 8 per conference?

Hopefully the National league.

This is what I'm thinking.

Look at the Rays, D-backs, Rockies... took a few years, but they took a trip and/or won the WS.

I think that if a group of people are coming together and buy land (without tax payer money), build a stadium, etc, (without tax payer money), they're probably not a bunch of small town chumps barely scraping the barrel to make a profit.

The day of blaming market size for the reason a team is successful or not is over. Teams that are run poorly are the ones who are don't win. Big markets doesn't guarantee anything (see: Mets, Padres, Oakland, Seattle, Detroit, Miami, etc).

It's like the NFL where teams are making money hand over fist, but the economics for baseball are different today than they were 20 years ago.

You do realize that there are currently Three major hotel/motel type buildings being built to go along with the other 2 giant convention center units that were just completed bringing almost 2000 new rooms to the Portland area with as many as 1000 more waiting to be built right? We have had this conversation about the ball park that you look to be wrong on. Now would you like to have it about Hotel space?

The Marlins did that a few years back too didn't they?

I should have used green font. Sorry.

With the Mariners blowing it up recently, this is what I need. It's like a lifeline.

not gonna lie, the renderings are fucking awesome
I just wish they could hit balls in into the water. Have a boardwalk with the bridge behind it, would be ideal. But I'll take anything they give me!
