Looks like they have put together about half the money needed. Said the remaining amount will be from a "financial world partner"?

I always felt like Portlands Art Scene was "ok", I think even in the State, Ashland has a lot going on. Could be that growing up around here I take it for granted?
Go up to the Japanese Gardens up at forest hill park. I was on the crew that built the newest addition. It's a fantastic collection of art and beautiful scenery. There are a number of other places all through this city and state that will make you look again and again.

Not denying the scenery aspect. The world is full of absolutely stunning places to see. Oregon is amongst some of the prettiest locals!

We built three buildings up there. Two of them are full of some very nice artifacts. Old and new. There is and area where they paved the ground with tile that is some gorgeous work.

Scene's expanded a lot in twenty years. Lately with the construction boom there's been a high demand for orginal work. And in general people who've been attracted to move here are consumers. Interesting related article:

Opinion: Portland arts scene a secret weapon for economic development

So where does Portland stack up?

Our city didn't make Amazon's short list for HQ2 cities. In my opinion, that's probably for the best.

But I do believe we are emerging from the shadow of Seattle and San Francisco. People are talking about bringing Major League Baseball here. Outside venture capital is starting to pour into locally grown companies.

And just last year, the National Center for Arts Research ranked Portland, Oregon No. 13 among large metros for its vibrant arts community.

Now that's something we can build on. For Portland to continue its rise as a great city, we need to support the transformation of our museum to better serve our community both today and into the future. That includes supporting the museum's renovation and expansion plans to make the facility even more attractive and accessible to all.

We are no longer a little brother to Seattle or San Francisco. Whether you're thinking of launching a company or relocating your company's headquarters, you can be assured that Portland, with its art museum, galleries, and vibrant design scene offers the strong culture and creative energy that draws people and keeps them here.

Have to leave your basement to know.
I speak as someone who's a member of PAM, use to (occasionally still do) attend First Thursday/Friday openings every month, travel nationally and internationally specifically to visit museums and view art, have friends who have or have had their own galleries and who have worked for PAM, OHS, and Disjecta. Portland's art scene is...mediocre.
