Seriously. I wouldn't give Harkless OR #20 for Lee/O'Quinn, let alone both! Lee would be a good swap for Crabbe, but an awful swap for Harkless. O'Quinn? Granted, I barely saw him play at all but I wasn't impressed when I did.

Lee and O'Quinn for Leonard and Harkless is such a dreadful deal for us without throwing #20 into the mix.

So is O'Quinn that bad? I must admit I am basing it on all the love for the guy he receives on this board. Hard to believe he is worse than Meyers.
And as for Lee....... he upgrades our backcourt defensively and offensively. I think we are fine replacing Harkless with ET, Aminu, Layman and #15.

Lets not forget whose contract we lose in that equation. That has value as well

As bad as Meyers is, and as much as I dislike him, his contract is not big enough to lose valuable assets to unload... this is a terrible trade idea. If we are giving assets it better be to unload Turner and/or Crabbe

You prefer to give away a better player? I would disagree. Those two players have value. We don't need to give up anything to unload them.
Meyers on the other hand does not have value at this moment.

Hark isn't Biebs, but he is getting near that point where if you don't see him pop, then he may be just a middling 3D guy the rest of his career.

Meh. I completely disagree.

And 3 & D guys don't slash.

Hark > Turner or Crabbe.

Fuck whatcha talkin' bout'.

I really dislike the title of this thread. My heart skips a beat every time I refresh the forum haha

True, but I want him to work on his handles and his defense. They guy is one of the most gifted athletes in the NBA. He should be able to lock down anyone, in any game. Sometimes he does. Other times he doesn't. He should also work on his own passing and ball handling. Harkless has the physical qualities to be a monster--just not sure he has the drive or mean streak (or something).

I would agree with this. I like Harkless as well, and maybe Terry's defensive game plans are to blame, but for a guy whose strength is D, he did not excel as much as I hoped.

Singling out Mo as not getting it done isn't what I'm doing. Just pointing out that his playoff performance isn't at all cause to keep him if there's a good deal to be had.

You could just as easily say that his playoff performance isn't at all cause to get rid of him either.

Far too often Harkless lost his man on defense due to mental lapses.
If players aren't mentally locked in, there is nothing you can do outside of benching and hope they get the message.
Which Stotts although he did at times during the season. I wish he did it far more often for Harkless.
Perhaps injuries to wings played a role in him not being as strict... But I dunno.

To me the only wing player who looked locked in defensively sans the 20 games to start the season was Turner.
CJ I think I'm disappointed in the most as far as his defensive effort goes.
He had amazing close outs/contests in the 4 playoff games Portland had. If he played with that effort all season, perhaps Portland isn't a bottom defensive team sans Nurk trade.

O'Quinn is a decent player. Probably similar level to Harkless except in different position. Harkless is younger though and the best we have at small forward, O'Quinn would be 20 mpg player here behind Nurkic.

Lee is a bad contract, I don't like him and he is old. To throw a #20 pick into the mix is gross overpay.

Funny that people would literally do anything to get rid of Meyers. If we had #1, #2 and #3 picks, I swear some people on here would like us to attach all of them to Meyers to get rid of his $10M contract.

Without first losing either Crabbe or Turner's contract, it doesn't matter. One of those two have to go before dumping - or, heaven forbid, paying to get rid of - Meyers makes any sense. I am not in favor of paying to get rid of anyone. I would, however, trade many of our players for draft picks (1st or 2nd), or even a TPE. But I'm not giving up assets to get rid of anyone.

how about this for the trade

knicks get

Moe + Leonard.

we get to not have leonard. moe is the price we pay.

Why not give them CJ for the privilege of getting rid of a $10M Leonard deal?

Seriously folks, it's not worth it. It's better to keep Meyers than offer good assets to get rid of him. If he were on Crabbe's deal then okay, but those $10M are not that much that we should be getting rid at all cost. He is not worth a tenth of that but still. If we sell Aminu and Davis we will save $14M and we could actually GET assets in return. I still believe someone might take Crabbe but slowly losing hope.

A good idea would be to have a SF who doesn't disappear entirely in the playoffs.

That could be Mo, as he proved two playoffs ago.

The thing is I don't think we are are really paying. In my my mind we are upgrading, maybe not by much but we are still better off. You guys act like Harkless is our SF of the future. He is not. Most people said all year we needed an upgrade. Well Aminu is arguably just as good defensively against bigger SF's and ET is arguably just as good against smaller SF's. Hopefully we will get our future SF with the 15th pick. If we can't .....then are the picks really worth that much?

In the meantime Lee is not too old to come off the bench. At 6'5" he can still guard and he is a decent 3 pt shooter (40% last year) He started 74 games and averaged 31 minutes. I think he would be a great vet off the bench. And O'Quinn is better than Meyers. So if we have to give 1 late first round pick (#26) to get it done.....it ain't that bad. And who says we can't trade Crabbe after it happens. Why does it have to be first? Either way I think we will move him.

I admitted I do not know much about O'Quinn. So if he sucks then forget it. I was just going off all the love the guy has gotten lately. I assumed he was better than anything we could get at 26 to back up Nurk. I agree with you all that the 20th pick is too much. But it doesn't sound like Neil wants 3 rookies.

O'Quinn is the most underrated big man in the NBA.

Who would say no to #15, #20, Harkless and Leonard for #8, O'Quinn? Should we? Would they?

I'd take that for Portland. New York probably shouldn't. While none of this is exact, Harkless and O'Quinn mostly cancel out and #15+#20 largely cancels out with #8, leaving New York with having to take on Leonard's contract for what amounts to a mostly even swap otherwise.

I think they'd value Harkless over O'Quinn because Harkless is younger, at a position of need, and has more years on his contract. He's also from NYC.

Advanced stats favor O'Quinn but in fewer minutes per game, Harkless is a few years younger--I don't think it's clear which they'd value higher. Even if they preferred Harkless, I doubt it'd be by enough to make taking on Leonard's contract worthwhile.

No they wouldn't. It sounds like their main goal is to keep 8 and add another 1st round pick. Not get rid of the one they have. But I guess they would end up with an extra pick.......Interesting proposal. But yeah i would.

I'm sure if we throw in Leonard, they could be swayed to give us that pick.....

We should say no. I'm not sure the player we could get at 8 would be better than the player we could get at 15. Plus we lose 20, which, even if you think is WAY to high, we could take Bell, which would do wonders for us.

Packaging Meyers in another trade can be done

One thing I don't think has been discussed. Who is leaking this info about Harkless and about Portland willing to give up a draft pick? It sure as hell isn't the Blazers; and I'm thinking Olshey is not happy at all about it, especially as it seems to portray the Blazers as desperate. Does somebody have an agenda and what is it? Since Blazer policy is always not to comment; I guess there is not much that Olshey can do about it.
