I think it would be a huge mistake to gut the roster for cap space to get Hibbert.

It seems to me the better strategy would be to see who you can sign from your own FAs and then look to adding a veteran SF and another PF/C type.

Hibbert really doesn't seem like he fits in the new NBA. ALSO, the Blazers seem to be focusing on athleticism, the same way GS is built. Minus Bogut, who probably would be considered a poor athlete, their roster is athletic, we need to keep up with that. If they feel they need to add a center, and I'm not sure they think that with Plumlee and Leonar_, who they like, already here, I think they would want to add someone who wouldn't cause the offense to grind to a halt.

When Hibbert was on his way to becoming the best Center in the NBA, before George cheated on his fiancé, he was blocking almost 3 shots and grabbing 9 boards. If a change of scenery could get him back to that level, I would believe he is more than capable of giving us 10 boards and 3 blocks a game. Also, Hibbert is a great pick and roll player. He sets mean picks, even when he was going through the mental lapses.

Very true, but if you get the Hibbert of 2 years ago, he would be better than any center we have or can afford to bring in. It's a risk, but only a 1 year risk. Hibbert has only 1 more year on his contract. If he's what brass expects, they can go over cap to keep him. If he isn't, then we have Plumlee and Nards to move on with, while having max to offer Durant next summer.

Wouldn't we be in a better position to have that flexibility than to have players in contract and not enough cap space to get a marquee player like Durant next summer?

I don't believe that he's going to be as sluggish as you suggest. Remember how many criticized the Lopez Acquisition, claiming he couldn't rebound or score? His first year, he was an immediate improvement! Hibbert has more talent, better anticipation for help d and I believe a better rebounder. If Olshey does get Hibbert, all of you guys will be surprised!

an improvement over the 6'8 JJ Hickson at starting center? Not saying much. Rolo is an average to below average starting center. Hibbert is the exact same player, just 2 inches taller with attitude problems and a bad contract.

Yes, I was talking specifically about June 30. After that, cap space is fine to use, though until August 24 you still can only trade Henderson, Vonleh or Plumlee by themselves.
