Marc Gasol was considered a giveaway price for Pau. Marc was the 48th pick, playing in Europe, the trade was Feb. 1, and no one knew in which year Marc would come over from Europe. It was a surprise that Marc later became a solid starter in Memphis.

So yes, the Lakers have a decades-long run of supposed "good luck."
Marc was an All Star and DPOY. Arguably better than Pau.

Mark Stein interviewed DAL gm who said “ he only spoke with the LAL regarding Luka”.

Who would only look at one destination? He also said Luka gave no indication he wanted out or would not resign with DAL.

there is something so fucked up about this. Imagine what other teams would have offered: multiple FRP maybe even in 2025 like SAS and OKC.

Strange stat: Blazers are one of only 3 teams that hasn’t had an OT game this season. The others are Cavs and Grizzlies.

I don’t think it’s all that bad of a move for Dallas. Go for it the next few years with Kyrie & AD & some very good role players. Then rebuild in a few years without having to pay Luka $300 million for a lazy star with terrible work ethic who plays zero defense.

Luka should have clearly been worth more either way

Maybe that's your opinion but the betting consensus is clearly the Mavs odds are much worse and the Lakers odds are much better.

That's just this season. In a few years when Luka hasn't even hit his peak this will be much more lopsided.

Who is the Mavs best wing today - A 36year old Klay who can't move defensively? 3 of the Mavs 4 best players are centers. Center is by far the easiest position to fill. This makes no sense to them winning now or winning long term.

Luka legit was a top4 MVP candidate every year in his mid 20s. I've never heard of a player like that being traded.

LeBron and Shaq walked in free agency. It's just unheard of for a player like this that can legit lead a team to a title being moved. This makes zero sense from Dallas end. Not to mention they get ONE pick while Bridges got 5. Worst trade I've ever heard of in NBA history.

And to the fucking Lakers. How does that franchise get so damn lucky every decade with this crap.

The west had now become absolutely brutal the next decade. Spurs and Thunder have amazing futures. Now we have to put the Lakers close to them. Not to mention the best player in the NBA in Jokic is in the west.

I didn’t say I didn’t think the Lakers got the better deal I said I think Mavs are better team than Lakers as currently constructed. Lakers will be god awful defensively

The nightmare for the Mavs is that this trade pisses Doncic off enough to get in shape. Of course, it could depress him enough to get even more out of shape. Apart from anything, he's used to the Cuban Mavs where money is no object. The Lakers are a decidedly shoestring operation in comparison.

You guys that keep bellowing out that Luka was worth more, don't you think any team talking to Dallas would be wondering why the f they were even shopping him? It wouldn't surprise me if they knew the locations Luka would actually appreciate going to so those teams had assurances he would resign with them too.

It's not an amazing haul but I think we are seeing the markets are drastically changed with this cba. Anthony Davis at least an elite player.

They didn't shop him. So this does not reflect the market.

Brakin' Newz:
Buoyed by the anticipation of playing with their new all-star big man, the Dallas Mavericks immediately lose their next game by 43.

Why not start a bidding war though? Announce you are trading him and let teams fight over him. Why take the shittiest possible deal?
You honestly think Anthony Davis is the shittiest possible deal? Seriously?

Not the best

Trading a star in his prime for a star two years or so from retiring is stupid.

Fox, McLaughlin to the Spurs

Huerter, Jones, and Collins to Chicago

LaVine to Sac

Guess they don't need Grant no more.
