OFFICIAL AROUND THE NBA: FEBURARY 2025

10 pages in, I glance at the thread for the first time, and no one else noticed? Not even The HCP?

one unmentioned fact Luka is going from a state with 0% income tax to a state with 13% income tax

what is 13% of 345M?

I’d argue Dallas has better shot with AD to win championship over next two years than Lakers with Luka.

Dallas has Kyrie, AD, Gafford, Klay and are all of a sudden a really good defensive team.
Luka will be an mvp multiple times. He’s a lock. Kyrie and AD aren’t even close. It’s about fair market value. The real value for Luka is not a tea cup fine china 32 yo big and a bad FRP. POR got a way better haul for Dame

And he's no longer eligible for the 345 super max contract. I mean, he ain't losing any sleep, but he lost a lot of money in the deal

yeah...I mentioned that in the other thread after Rasta pointed it out

from 345M - 0% state income tax ---> 290M - 13% state income tax...ouch!

Yep, the way I look at it is LA has a superstar in his prime that they can build around in 2 years time and then be very competitive. They are ready to go post LeBron without having to hit in the lottery or through FA.

I hate the trade, but AD has value. He may be hurt now but he’s played 42 games and is putting up monster numbers.

AD is probably way undervalued at the moment and Luka way overvalued. But I'm still glad I'm not a Mavs fan. Even though their team is probably now more likely to make it back to the finals.

The rich hire firms to choose investments which greatly reduce their taxes.

not saying it was a good trade just saying Dallas ultimately has the better team and in my opinion better shot at title than Lakers as currently constructed

they better hope they can draw FA’s because they don’t have shit for trade capital or future draft picks.

all kinds of shelters and loopholes for investment income; not a lot of shelters and loopholes for salary and wages

It's only the home games Luka is taxed in California so it's half of his contract. The much bigger loss is Luka isn't supermax eligible now so his deal will be much smaller.

Maybe that's your opinion but the betting consensus is clearly the Mavs odds are much worse and the Lakers odds are much better.

That's just this season. In a few years when Luka hasn't even hit his peak this will be much more lopsided.

Who is the Mavs best wing today - A 36year old Klay who can't move defensively? 3 of the Mavs 4 best players are centers. Center is by far the easiest position to fill. This makes no sense to them winning now or winning long term.

Luka legit was a top4 MVP candidate every year in his mid 20s. I've never heard of a player like that being traded.

LeBron and Shaq walked in free agency. It's just unheard of for a player like this that can legit lead a team to a title being moved. This makes zero sense from Dallas end. Not to mention they get ONE pick while Bridges got 5. Worst trade I've ever heard of in NBA history.

And to the fucking Lakers. How does that franchise get so damn lucky every decade with this crap.

The west had now become absolutely brutal the next decade. Spurs and Thunder have amazing futures. Now we have to put the Lakers close to them. Not to mention the best player in the NBA in Jokic is in the west.

Harrison sleeping with the enemy. The guys have been friends/close for 20 years. When Rob becomes President and Jeanie focuses on CEO duties, I wonder who will get the next GM job of the Lakers?
