They are running short on options. Losing Taurean Prince means that can't honestly even say they are going to run it back they've lost talent. Regardless of the posturing there is no way LeBron will let that team go into the season with both of those future firsts that could mean the difference between a championship and a first round exit and most definitely are the difference between being a contender and a pretender.
I think all of the posturing is just negotiation with Joe. I think they only want to give up one of those picks for Jerami. I think Joe is demanding both. I think that we might see a deal soon that splits the difference something like the 2029 FRP and a swap in 2028 or 2030.
Joe may be demanding both, but I don't even believe the Lakers would offer one, if it's unprotected. The only 'simple' trade that works within the CBA is Russell + Hachimura for Grant, and I think the Lakers value both of those players. Last season, those two averaged a combined 60 minutes, 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists; and they averaged 42% shooting on 10.6 three's a game. They combined for 9.2 winshares and Grant's average is 3.5 with his best being 7.2
the big issue is the 2nd apron for the Lakers. They have to move two decent players just to get Grant and they will not, IMO, give up more than one pick as well
