OFFICIAL AROUND THE NBA: JULY 2024

They are running short on options. Losing Taurean Prince means that can't honestly even say they are going to run it back they've lost talent. Regardless of the posturing there is no way LeBron will let that team go into the season with both of those future firsts that could mean the difference between a championship and a first round exit and most definitely are the difference between being a contender and a pretender.

I think all of the posturing is just negotiation with Joe. I think they only want to give up one of those picks for Jerami. I think Joe is demanding both. I think that we might see a deal soon that splits the difference something like the 2029 FRP and a swap in 2028 or 2030.

Joe may be demanding both, but I don't even believe the Lakers would offer one, if it's unprotected. The only 'simple' trade that works within the CBA is Russell + Hachimura for Grant, and I think the Lakers value both of those players. Last season, those two averaged a combined 60 minutes, 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists; and they averaged 42% shooting on 10.6 three's a game. They combined for 9.2 winshares and Grant's average is 3.5 with his best being 7.2

the big issue is the 2nd apron for the Lakers. They have to move two decent players just to get Grant and they will not, IMO, give up more than one pick as well

You think before you post? You actually think adding those two coaches is a BAD thing for Coach Reddick to have done? Please explain.

I love that our team is gong to win 20 games next year and people on here are calling out other teams for the players they’re acquiring. Isn’t he one of the best shooters in the game still?

you answered your own questions.
Coach McMillan & Brooks have winning coaching records. They should have been tanking for picks. Adding a good Free Agent shooter ... that's not what tanking teams do. It's more important to develop the players that can't shoot, because winning sucks. Losing is more important.

Wow.... Thats a huge contract for a guy that hasn't shown he is a #2 option.

Yeah Ants contract ain’t so bad to take on

269/5 = $53.8 million per year for Franz.... he was basically as effective (ineffective) as Josh Giddey in the playoffs - who was acquired for a role player on an expiring contract.

Yeah this Ant $25 million being insanely overpaid narrative was stupid at the time and beyond ridiculous today.

I just don't see the point of signing Franz for that much right now. He would be a restricted free agent next summer, you can get him on a max contract then. If I'm running the Magic I want to lock up a discount if we're taking all the risk of that contract a year early. Franz is far from an All-NBA level of player who commands a for certain max extension.

I said he was overpaid at the time but I always qualified it by gauging it by the market that summer. There was no team that would have given him 18-20M/year that off-season, let alone 25M/year. There were only 3 or 4 teams with anywhere close to that kind cap-space and all of them were flush with guards

Wow great move by the 6ers to round out that roster, also weakens another East team significant (fuck the Heat)

What's 6ers lineup now?

Embiid
George
Martin
Oubre
Maxey

Can't keep track of their bench but that's a great starting 5. I'd probably rank them as clear 3rd in the East after Boston/NY

Kind of sad end to Dames career as he's basically getting pushed into Neil Olshey roster that has very little chance to contend and no assets to get better. Hard to count them out of any series with Giannis being possibly the best player in the league. But I don't see how they can get enough teammates help to compete over 82 games and then 4 rounds of playoffs.

For us, the 2028-2030 Milwaukee picks are looking better every day.

And as hard as it has been for some around here, Father time is undefeated. Drop off will happen sooner than later for a 34 year old point guard.

Hornets waiving every tall skinny Eastern European on their roster. Oh, and Devonte Graham.

First ever SIX-team trade. You couldn't even do this on any trade simulator.

Are there no straight-out signings any more? Seems like if a player decides to sign with a new team in free agency they always work out a sign-and-trade so that the player can get more money and the team he's leaving gets at least a trade exception.

I wish there is another version of this that also shows what teams gave up

Knowing from whom the player / picks / cash came from helps a lot in evaluating / understanding deals

Tristan Thompson?

Crazy the Bulls wanted him over LaMarcus, and then Charlotte preferred Adam Morrison.

NBA front offices are all much better today, those 90/2000 era had so many former players as GMs or stupid owners, players on long 7 year contracts, we just had so many more stupid laughable moves.

That was Tyrus Thomas who never enjoyed the success that Tristan Thompson has. Tristan was drafted 6 years after Tyrus and Thompson played in 83 more playoff games than Thomas. LaMarcus was better than both but Tristan does have a ring.

Ahhh good catch, thanks. Got my TT mixed up.

Ouch, Toronto pulled their 15 million per year offer off the table because Trent (and/or Rich Paul) wanted 25 per year. It will be interesting to see how much he loses over the next few years because of it.
