So this then again Begs the question. Why would a successful GM leave a successful situation to come to another situation that actually gives them no more control?The people at Vulcan like Kolde have fired a lot of people I'm sure. I doubt they give a fuck about the actual firing. They just want to make sure their ducks are in a row before they do it.
As far as complete control goes, no executive in the league has it. MJ could if he wanted to be his own GM and technically any owner could but none do. So, Vulcan is just the ownership group over the Blazers. The deal with being both President of Basketball Operations and GM is that you make most moves on your own and then have to answer for it later if the owner/ownership group doesn't like it. You basically just have one less person to answer to and as far as day to day basketball operations you have no one looking over your shoulder.
My guess would be money. If you throw enough money at someone they might make that leap.
Leaving Chicago or New York for Portland Oregon does not seem like a great career move without having an awesome deal.
Ultimately will Jodi pay big bucks to get a better GM? Lets hope so?
