OLSHEY FIRED

these are the first mentions of Perry and Eversley. hmm

Perry was GM of the Pistons under Dumars when Chauncey won his title in Detroit. But he was also the guy who drafted Hezonja 5th in Orlando.

I need to look up these dudes.

I was thinking more along the lines of taping someone's butt cheeks together like Emilio Estevez in The Breakfast Club.

Ah! You are refering to the Monday Morale Boosting meeting. Abusing the field hands always boosts Olshey's morale!

Interesting that Olshey allegedly had no clue they were gonna fire him until today yet there are already 4 specific names out there as candidates to replace him. Lol funny how that works.

Any way that players or coaches had insight last night into this type of thing happening soon?

The blowout loss at home to a poor Spurs team seemed unusual even for this underwhelming of a season.
Doubt it. I bet this decision was made earlier in the week and they wanted to wait to announce it on Friday.

quick has no clue bro. he thought Olshey was here to stay and put it in print less than 12 hrs ago.

yeah the deadline is what 3 months away? If they get someone in here within the next month that should leave plenty of time for evaluation and negotiations. And if nothing else, even if nothing happens at the deadline, it’ll give the new person time to prepare for an important summer.

Additionally, I feel like if we are hiring another top executive, there isn’t a ton of *roster* evaluation that needs to go on for that GM to dive right in especially with more contracts being available for trade soon. I feel most executives have a pretty good pulse of other teams and their strengths and weaknesses as it helps them formulate trades and things of that nature.

I do worry that the new GM, or god forbid we have interim GM for a full year, overcompensates and throws their hands up…

“Simmons for CJ and 20 picks? SURE!”

Eversley is a beast. He’d probably be number one on my list with Prince 2 and Barry 3. I’m liking all these names though tbh.

Don’t know much about Eversley but Perry would be interesting.

1. Perry
2. Berry
3. Eversley / Prince

my current power rankings

I imagine most candidates wouldn't need any sort of extensive evaluation period. Have to imagine most in the field have a good working knowledge of most of the teams in the league, as well as targets and guys they generally like. And generic team building models they could or would look to incorporate

When they first let it known Neil was under investigation I said we'd never hear from him again through the Blazers microphones and that's one I got right for once.....time to plant a new garden and replace the soil....Casey and Brooke were showing high praise for Joe Cronin as the interim before Neil got fired...I think Neil going away won't dent whatever is in the works right now heading into the trade deadline...Cronin has been in charge of scouting for a long time now.

Let's just hope no lawsuits are on the way from NO. I refuse to even type that name.

im just happy no one outside of mannix is mentioning ainge. what has everley done? he hasn't been with CHI very long. does he get credit for DeMar/Caurso?

This is such a huge position to fill at such a critical time. I hate that the Vulcans will be filling it...

There's plenty of organic fertilizer for the new garden left over from the Olshey era.

Sounds to me like Jody and Bert decided to eat Neil's payout instead of try to drag it out without a strong enough case to void the contract....Neil must have gotten his money

he was fired for cause-- literally mentioned in the press release from the team. that indicates that they did this to actually get out of paying Olshey. where are you seeing this?

I'm not...I'm speculating...maybe they did find something...I hadn't read that part other than he was unable to play well with others....I'm not sure that cost him his payout though...we'll find out I'm sure...Neil also could have cut a deal and taken a partial payout

Tin foil hat theory: they dragged it out because they were looking for a way to keep Denial Olshit, and then had to go into reverse when Dame finally issued a "him or me" ultimatum.

This does not breed confidence.
Olshey et al largely been competent at finding value in the later portions of the draft.

24 - Simons
25- Little
31- Crabbe
37- Trent Jr.
40- Barton
41- Connaughton
47- Layman

the only real miss in this range was Swanigan, and maybe Elleby. If you just use these late picks getting second contracts as a metric, it's a near 100% hit rate. the Collins pick in the lottery was a disaster (and i'll maintain that as Olshey's biggest mistake in a decade), but our draft record has been great by most NBA teams' standards during Neil's tenure.

More like Neil telling Jody “If you want CJ gone you’re gonna have to fire me, lady!”

This is great news. Super pumped. I imagine we won't see any major changes though until the permanent GM comes in. They would want to give them a chance to put their stamp on the team.

Also..... next up is getting rid of this ownership.
