Oregon State Beavers 2025

True--all that was based on the notion of the CW being a battle for a title-game berth. Since it's the Beavers' thread, I figured this was the place to look at Beavs-win-out scenarios.
Not knocking ya at all. Just a tough out is all. I'm torn a bit? I'm Beaver Alum so I pull for Beavs but this year might be a chance for Championship in Oregon.

If I were in the other thread, I would state unequivocally I'm all in on rooting for a playoff bid. Would love to see UW lose a game or two or three.

now, all those games were on the road. They get the huskies at home. BUT, Penix is by far the best QB OSU will have faced, and the UofW receivers are by far the best group of receivers OSU has faced. Washington leads the nation in passing offense; have led the nation for 2 years now. They are the real deal, and again, OSU's passing defense is suspect, especially the secondary

the best way to stop a passing attack is to pressure and sack the QB. OSU is good at that, so that's a plus.

I wouldn't bet on this game

Would you say he's the best QB in the Pac?

I live in SoCal and there's lots of buzz that Chip Kelly will be fired at the end of the season and that UCLA's #1 target will be Jonathan Smith. I believe Smith is from Pasadena and would be coaching in his hometown. That's just the rumors on talk radio down here.

UCLA is not a good job. Jonathan Smith could do much better than that.
UCLA was somewhat relevant in the Pac 8/10/12.
It might become irrelevant next season and nobody will care.

I think UCLA will get a lot more $$$ from Big 10 than UO UW these first few years?

So if Beavs win out and win pac12 championship what bowl game do they go to?

Rose bowl is CFP semi this year which sucks as Beaves haven't been to Rose Bowl since the 60s.

If CFP was 8 teams like next year they'd probably get in but they're not getting into a top4 spot with two losses.

.

UCLA isn't USC, that's true. But UCLA in the Big-10 is a 'better' job than OSU in the MWC. Smith might have other priorities that would cause him to choose OSU over UCLA, at least in the short term. Smith does seem more like a Michigan State type of guy than a UCLA type of guy. He might be a lifer at OSU but he'll likely be very tempted by another offer, if not this season, than next. That's especially true if there's a one way exodus of OSU players in the transfer portal

tickets for a game with the stakes of USU/UofW are going to be hard to find when the stadium capacity is only 35,000

Sly, please change thread title to "Pre-2023 Oregon Ducks".

God I hope Beavers ticket holders don't cash in and sell out Reeser to Fusky fans the way Blazers fans used to sell out the arena to those annoying asshole Lakers fans who used to pack the garden.

I highly doubt that will happen.

When the Rose Bowl is a CFP game, a non-playoff Pac-12 champ is considered an at-large team. Could end up in the Fiesta, Peach or Cotton. Peach seems unlikely since they're already stuck with the best "group of 5" team. Fiesta would be my assumption.

LOL...you can't be serious

how many schools renovate their football stadium and lose 10,000 in capacity like the Beavs did?

OSU would have the 7th largest capacity in the MWC. WSU the 9th
I actually know quite a bit about this. Yes the stadium lost seats in the last renovation. No it's not permanent. Yes they are/were planning to do another (actually multiple) renovation(s) in the future if needed.
The seating they have now accommodates a bunch more standing room if needed. The last renovation made future renovations possible and quite a bit easier and affordable.
Then the Pac 12 fell apart. Seems like they were blessed with what I would consider one of the best timed decisions they could have made. Not only did they get the renovations done and made the seating/stadium much much better but they also saved what would have been catastrophic costs/debt if they had decided to do all three parts of the renovation at once. As it sits they are still going to have a very tough time figuring out what they can do to even save sports in Corvallis.

The decision to go smaller the way they did might look like the best decision they could have made the way things are playing out. It's too bad because that team/coach seems to be on the right path and they could very well have become a solid program. Right now the future is not real clear?

Looks like Beavs (and Cougs) won full control of pac2 board and the 400 million cash. Unclear what will happen with it, they probably can't keep it all, but at least they won't have the exiting schools all immediately cashing it out.
