What is the reasoning behind not inviting all of the MWC?they'll need it since they have to send 155M to the Mountain West Conference in exit fees and poaching penalties
of course, the massively hypocritical Pac-2 is suing the MWC over the poaching fees it agreed to pay while being advised by high priced lawyers. I'd wonder how many millions of the 55M in poaching fees will go to the Pac-2's lawyers. IIRC, Boise St and Colorado St are also suing the MWC over exit fees
reportedly, this two-pronged legal attack was a Pac-X strategy to force the MWC back to the negotiating table and reducing the Pac's contractual obligation. The assumption was the dual track lawsuits would be a major obstacle to the MWC from recovering from the Pac-2's raid, and prevent the MWC from adding teams and becoming a legal FBS conference. But the MWC fooled them all by actually adding the needed teams, meeting the NCAA's FBS requirements, and also signing a new media deal thru 2032.
This means the MWC has no compelling reason to abandon the legal fight and compromise. Meanwhile the Pac-X has only 7 teams and needs another school to join to become an FBS member; and the clock is ticking. And about the only visible candidate for inclusion is Sacramento St. The problem with Sac. St. is that they are still an FCS school and the application and approval process mandated by the NCAA for FCS-->FBS elevation is 2 full calendar years; so, not till 2027. And the Pac-12 needs to be at 8 FBS teams by July 31, 2026 . The lawsuits the Pac-X believed would be the levers they needed to make the MWC cry uncle could actually be dead-weights dragging them under. The Pac-X needs an 8th full FBS school and the list of candidates has dwindled to almost nobody.
reportedly, the new strategy of the Pac-X is to pivot from trying to add an 8th school to trying to secure a media deal and then using that as leverage to pry a hypothetical 8th school from parts unknown. But the reports are also that the Pac-X is having a difficult time generating media interest without that full FBS accreditation. Painted into a dark corner.
the irony is that 100M Rose Bowl payout over 2 years; and other bowl payouts; and CFP payout; and all of the March Madness money....almost all of that OSU/WSU could have split. All they had to do was invite the 12 MWC schools to join the Pac-X. But no, that wouldn't do. After all of their whining and crying and venom about getting fucked over by realignment, those Pac-2 hypocrites chose to try and fuck over Wyoming and New Mexico and Hawaii, etc in the exact same way OSU/WSU had been fucked over

Same as all college football picking one school over another - the lesser schools don't provide much additional revenue but would take a cut of the TV contract. What is the reasoning behind not inviting all of the MWC?

It also wasn't just an exclusive OSU/WSU decision - it was an agreement with all of the new PAC schools including Boise St/Fresno/San Diego/Utah St/Colorado S.
OSU/WSU had many discussions about a complete merger with the MWC but were not able to come to an agreement.
I'm curious: have any Beaver fans heard about an FBS school the Pac-X has a realistic chance of adding as the 8th team?
UNLV
I guess you can never say never, but UNLV has publicly committed to the MWC and the MWC already has a new media contract that runs thru 2032
And in the GOR the MWC signed with media, I am pretty sure the exit fees from the MWC have been increased over the current 18M. Those exit fees would be waived for any team that has been invited to join the Big-10, SEC, Big-12, or ACC. But not waived for the Pac-X. Also, I can't recall what the deadline is but the exit fee for UNLV from the MWC would increase to 36M is UNLV announces departure after April of this year
I really don't think any MWC or AAC school is an option because of recent GOR's they have signed. Sacramento State would like to join but they are an FCS school who has yet to apply for FBS consideration and that process takes a minimum of 2 years so they would be FBS in July 2026 when the Pac-X would lose they rights to the PAC brand
it might have to be a school like New Mexico State or Sam Houston. But Same Houston has already declined an offer from the MWC because of travel expense
This Duck fan was one of the 9300 rooting on the Beavers. Fun game!Incredible win in OT to a sellout crowd of 9300+ at Gill

So cool! From the TV view it was action packed from start to finish with tons of different players contributing from both teams -- I'm sure it was even louder inside Gill -- hopefully Beavs can keep the momentum going
You shouldn't have said anything. This 6-0 run by the Cougs is your fault.Beavs vs Cougs on ESPN2
Beavs up with 5 min to go
