Oregon State Beavers 2025

Always cracks me up this mentality. My whole family are ducks and I couldn’t afford to go there, so I went into the military. So in your way of thinking I can’t be a Duck fan? That shit’s in my blood. I promise you 10x more than most graduates.

You're missing a key word here.

"entitled".

Entitled fans make it unbearable to want to root for their team, if you're a casual fan or a fan other another team. It's why a lot of people hate the Yankees, Dodgers and Cowboys. Their fans are some of the most entitled pricks in the universe.

I'd even throw in Steeler fans.

It's far more common to see a Duck fan whine about the refs and blame them for a loss than for them to accept that their team was bettered.

complete bullshit. And by the way, Duck fans don't have a lot of losses lately to complain about

on the other hand, beaver fans spent years ridiculing Oregon's branding efforts and uniform combinations. It was style over substance they claimed, while they celebrated their lunch-pail ethos and 'doing things the right way'. When doing it the right way left them out in the cold in realignment then those same people flipped to blaming Oregon for the collapse of the Pac-12 and the situation OSU was in. Yeah, right...OSU had no responsibility in the matter

if you want to see what entitled actually meant you should have watched that emergency session in front of the state legislature when the OSU president and AD spent 90 minutes blaming Oregon for the collapse of the Pac-12, and first asking the legislature to stop Oregon from joining the Big-10. And when that didn't fly, they said that the UofO should plug the 40M hole in the OSU athletic budget while also insisting that the UofO should pay for OSU's athletic scholarships across all sports for an unspecified number of years. It was so pathetic that the UofO reps, as well as half of the legislators just got up and walked out

and then, after all of the accusations of the UofO torpedoing the Pac-12 because they lacked 'integrity' for not protecting OSU, The beavs and cougs lacked their own integrity by raiding and torpedoing the Mountain West Conference. Now, I don't really blame them for their raging hypocrisy. They were doing what everybody else did by looking out for their own self-interest

Well, I have an opinion. And it is just as unimportant on a sports message board site as everyone else's...

But this next part is not an opinion...is is clinical commentary.

If you enjoy the failure of others...
If you make an effort to remind others of their failures...
If you seek places to join conversations with the hope of delivering those reminders....

you fall into one of the behavioral categories of sadism.

Fans enjoy humiliating other fans due to psychological factors like schadenfreude (pleasure in others' misfortune), reinforcing their own identity, feeling superior, gaining a sense of power, or seeking vindication, often amplified by group dynamics where "out-group" rivals' failures feel like victories, boosting in-group solidarity and self-esteem. It stems from insecurity, envy, or a need to establish dominance, turning fandom rivalry into toxic behavior

Indeed. People like to punch downward at someone else to make themselves feel better.

So, while Ducks fans tend to think USC are the arrogant bastards, some of their fans don't realize they themselves have become everything they hate about a team like USC or the Lakers.

Some of them just love the little brother tag and stomping on OSU.

Our whole family are Ducks and Beav fans. When they play each other, we root for our Mighty Ducks. We also root for the Pilots and Vikes.
I understand I just personally can’t, I’ve tried. I’ve been through the toughest OSU seasons I’m 56 so seen it all

don't be delusional. The Duck fans ALWAYS bitch about the refs. First it was pac 12 refs and now it's the big whatever they're in refs.

yeah right....Oregon fans are the only ones in any sport who bitch about the refs. You want might want to pay attention to a game thread around this place

BLAZER FANS ALWAYS BITCH ABOUT THE REFS!

OLive has an article today:

after Scott Barnes apparently promised that the new OSU head coach would have the top salary in the Pac-X, turns out that Shephard's is 6th out of 7. He has never been a HC before so it's a rational salary, but once again, Barnes seems to have over-promised and under-delivered

but there was a pretty interesting footnote in the article:

"Barnes, meanwhile, is far and away the highest paid athletic director in the new Pac-12, having played a pivotal role in the conference’s rebuilding over the past two years. His 2025 salary of nearly $1.18 million was at least double that of every other Pac-12 AD — and in some cases triple.

Meanwhile, the OSU athletic department finds itself having to walk back a number of assertions by Barnes in recent months. From the school’s controversial NIL partnership with Blueprint Sports, to Barnes’ public backing of Trent Bray prior to his firing, to his calling the general manager position a “misnomer” before eventually agreeing to bring in a football GM under Shephard — reportedly a sticking point in negotiations with OSU’s new coach"

yikes!

I didnt read the story but based on your comment it seems to be missing an important detail. Shephard wanted more $ for his assistant coaches, he insisted on taking less $ so his other coaches could be paid more.
I love the guy!
you should have read the article:

so, not only is Shephard making less, so are the assistant coaches. Looks like Barnes was cheap-screwing all of the coaching salaries

Barnes must have dirt on the OSU president and board. Insane he has spearheaded the destruction of 100 years of OSU legacy and somehow retains his position.

Since it appears Barnes is grossly overpaid I imagine it would cost OSU a shit ton of money it doesn't have to fire that fucker. Also, I get the feeling he has the university president completely snowed about how great he thinks he is. I've never witnessed someone throw so many staffers under the bus while making excuses for his own gross mismanagement and asserting he's the best ever at his position, and get away with it. It's Kafkaesque.

Fire that fucker.

Or the article is wrong.

this is what I've heard... and the guys on 1080 The Fan were talking about it this morning also:
Oregon State's new Head Coach, JaMarcus Shephard's salary pool is set to be around $5 million total, with a significant portion, possibly $3 million, allocated for assistants, a substantial jump from previous years, enabling competitive salaries in the new Pac-12, but specific individual assistant salaries aren't public yet. Shephard himself earns a base of $1.6 million annually plus incentives, with significant resources to build his staff.

it's entirely possible OLive is wrong. They've been wrong before

but they claim to have actually seen the contract. Shephard's base salary is not 1.6M

but that's kind of splitting hairs when assuming all the ancillary/supplemental income is guaranteed. Sometimes not all of it is as parts are incentives. Not sure why OLive would say the assistant salary pool is less if they didn't have the numbers; but maybe they are wrong

BLAZER FANS ALWAYS BITCH ABOUT THE REFS!
Yes and most fans of every team always bitch about the refs screwing over their team. I'm sure you're aware of this.

This has been my experience watching sports with people from all over the nation, who are fans of just about every team.
