Quick: A new Meyers Leonard

Oh I see the problem, you took my statement literally... Clearly my point is that this is the time of year when players talk about what they've worked on over the off-season and express their optimism for the upcoming season... Nobody comes in and says they slacked off and got a little chubby eating donuts or that they feel like they've gotten worse since last season. I'm not breaking any news here...

I don't dislike Meyers, at all. You must have me mistaken for some other anonymous person on the internet that you don't know. I've rooted for him every season. And I've given him credit where credit is due- I've never doubted he works hard. But after all his hard work and after all the training camp optimism, year after year, where are we? ... Right about where we started his rookie year.

Maybe 6th time's the charm.

With Nurk eating double teams for breakfast, lunch, and dinner I would expect those two to both average double figure rebounds if they get starter minutes. They are relentless rebounders especially on the offensive end. It'll be hard not to play Biggie eventually because he will create second and third opportunities constantly on the offensive end. That is a recipe for getting blown out against us, we can be average on the other side of the ball if we can make sure we dominate the boards night in and night out.

When Portland went from 41 wins in 2007 to 54 wins in 2008, it probably wasn't a coincidence we went from -84 Total Rebounding Differential for the year to leading the league at +444.

You look over the list of teams that rebound best, and not all of them are great. But nearly all the ones that are bad at it are terrible.

Incidentally, Westbrook got the scoring title last year while his team lead the league last year in boards (by a massive margin).

With so many other scoring title candidates adding mouths to feed (Paul George, Melo, CP3) Dame has to be a contender for that title. We have to have somebody at PF vacuuming up the misses.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a pretty amazing turnaround if he finally put something together (finally), but nothing that's been said by him is all that much different from any other year. There's no credit to give until it actually shows up and does something. Talk is cheap.

If I were to point to one major difference this year, it's that nobody is talking about him possibly starting or playing major minutes at the 4. He's entering the season with one clearly defined goal--sop up as many of the 18 or so minutes that Nurkic doesn't play as he can. Even that is no gimme--Swanigan and Ed Davis both probably see themselves as 30mpg players, and I'd probably put my money on Collins over him when the chips are down too, just from a mental strength standpoint.

This is the first October in a long time where Leonard's going to have to fight just to see the court in a really limited role.

Sounds to me like Hanlen already had a pretty decent resume and reputation prior to working with Meyers. And in all reality, none of the reports of Meyers' progress will do Hanlen any good if he doesn't show out on the court, so I don't see the value to him in overselling his progress this summer.

I reserve judgment until I see him play. I think he was stunted last season by going into practice hurt and missing some of the season.

He's got a real opportunity to even be the starting PF, with Vonleh out. He's got to show he belongs, though.

The problem with ML is that it is the same story 5th year in a row. Not saying I hate him (I most certainly do not) or want him to fail (most certainly do not), heck, I hope he has a great year - it would make me very happy to see it happen, but at this point in time - it's prove me wrong. Yeah...a scouting report from 5 years ago doesn't really do much for me. We have 5 years' worth of data to reference. His "agility" is overstated in terms of defending the PF position effectively. He can't do it; we've seen that--predraft scouting report notwithstanding.

Then the scouting report is WRONG. He might be fast in a straight line, but nobody in their right mind would ever describe him as agile. He has no lateral quickness whatsoever.

It's just like when people said LA "ran like a deer". Yeah, he pranced quickly in a straight line, but he had no ability to change direction (or catch a pass!) on the move.

I'm more disappointed in the coaching staff who have let this young center turn into what we see today.

When the team was imploded after LMA left, I really thought that was a good time to rebuild the coaching staff as well for a fully fresh start. Was never really impressed with Stotts, but the big miss was not hiring Thibs that same off-season when he was available. A defensive minded coach would've been perfect for our backcourt.

Whilst Thibs record isn't great at Twoves, he has given the team more prestige/extra clout around the league & I suspect his defensive teachings will finally reap some rewards for them this season.

I don't think it's that Meyers lacks agility, it's about his reaction time. Having those instincts is more important than actual quickness.
