Love this song. Eddie sings it with such passion. Seems like a good pump-up song.

The music is alright, but the reason it got a C rating is because of the vocalist. Dude is trying too hard, and often times he yelps. I like the guitar, and I like that they use a harp in some of their stuff. Good find.

My next offering is a three parter. It's three guys from Mr. Bungle who've formed what's known as Secret Chiefs 3, a group ranging from surf rock to doom metal. Though, they have a huge Persian influence as you'll see by this clip. I've already posted one of their songs (Exodus) here a few pages back, and here's a little jam session they did for a radio station.

B- Even though I don't really like that kind of music, I found it a bit relaxing for some reason. When I first saw how long that stuff was, I almost just left this thread

Stereo 360 - "Automatic"

I found this band just skimming through friends of some Techno music band cuz I thought that chick looked hot

I don't know man, I just couldn't get into it. The dude's voice was too monotonous and the music didn't really stand out in my opinion. I guess its a little catchy and energetic, but I didn't like the sound that much.

Well, here's my first post in this thread. Hope you guys like my recommendation. I've been playing it over and over for a while now.

Led Zeppelin - No Quarter

So much emotion in the music, such a beautiful sound to the ears. 'Nuff said.

Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter

To me, this is absolutely beautiful music. So sad, so emotional.

Probably my favorite Led Zeppelin song. It's so haunting and beautiful. You should check out Tool's version.

Damien's a favorite of mine. That's the song that introduced me to him. I was watching TV, and a trailer for Closer (the movie) came on, and The Blower's Daughter was playing and I was mesmerized. Three records later, and an undying love for his music had led him to be one of my favorite male vocalists. There's a part two of it, more of a b-side but it's not quite as good (though it was turned into Elephant). BTW, have you heard the Amie/The Blower's Daughter fusion he does live? It's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. Also, have you heard about Lisa leaving? It sucks. Another BTW, haha...Seu Jorge and Ana Carolina do a version in Portuguese that I think is even better.

I did hear about Lisa leaving, but I didn't hear why. I actually heard about it the other day. As for the Amie/The Blower's Daughter fusion, I haven't scene or heard it, do you got it somewhere online?

A-

Very cool song. The dude's got a powerful voice and the guitar was awesome. I couldn't understand everything he said, but that wasn't that important. I liked the whole unholy vibe the song created.

btw, thanks for pointing me to the Tool cover. They did an awesome take on that Zeppelin song.

I heard this song got really overplayed on the radio, but I didn't listen to rock when it came out, so it never really ruined it for me. Trippy video:

The White Stripes - 7 Nation Army

Easy song to play, simplistic, etc. but at the end of the day, Jack White is simply amazing. Yes, he was really overrated when the White Stripes first hit the scene, and yes, the image they reflect is odd, but the man is one of the greatest guitar players I've ever heard in my life (in terms of creativity, aesthetics, etc., not technical ability).

(kinda shitty quality on that YouTube video though)

Such a great song, from such a great band. Sonic Youth are so legendary, and Daydream Nation is still so relevant after all these years. One of my favorite albums. I know the song is from a different album, but I had to bring up DN. Anyhoo, here's my next one. I've been in love with this song for as long as I can remember...

A friend of mine sent me this song and I love it. Hope no one else has put it up already:

The Doors - Light My Fire

Absolute classic, everybody knows it. That's all I can say.

Yes, it's been played a million times, but I don't care, I still think it's the greatest song ever recorded. I can't quite put into words why this song is so great. It's not technically amazing, but it just moves my soul more than any other song out there. It's a very enduring sound. Jim was a genius, the likes of which we won't see for years to come.

"I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps "Oh look at that!" Then — whoosh, and I'm gone... and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me — ever."

New Song:

Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us

(Yes, I know the keyboard player looks like Hitler... forget that visual... this is one of the greatest psychedelic pop bands ever)

A- That keyboard player looks a bit creepy when he's looking around but that song was bad ass. I don't know what it was but it's just catchy, sweet song.

Saliva - "Always"

Invalid Video Link

One of my all-time favorites

F

I'll repeat what I said earlier about Saliva -

"I've been way too overexposed to Saliva, because they're from my town. I bet Sasha's heard his fill too. They were okay on their first album, but everything after that was just trash, and I see a few of their band members around here and there at parties, clubs, and whatnot (particularly Josey Scott and Paul Crosby), and they're all grade-A douchebags."

This song in particular gets on my nerves though. The lryics are just amazingly trite and aren't written with any thought but are rather formulated so that they attract a particular audience (ala Linkin Park).

What's up with the video, btw? Dragonball Z? Well, at least they have their target market pinpointed... Dragonball Z-watching, emotionally frustrated 11-year olds.

(Yes, I know I'm an elitist asshole sometimes when it comes to music.)

New Song:

Pink Floyd - Hey You

B- Wow, this song just seems so depressing. It's almost up there with all that emo music. But still I couldn't be cold hearted enough to give it an F

Static-X - "The Only"

Invalid Video Link

Static-X - The Only - D

Now I'm not a heavy music hater or anything like that, just the only Static-X song I ever liked was "Push It." They're just like every nu-metal/industrial hardcore band out there that you hear on the radio. The lyrics are terrible teenage-angst annoyance. Typical verse/chorus/repeat and then top it all off with a distortion mute pause ending like almost every single band in the genre does. They live off of an image and they always are the same. Wayne has big hair to go along with the band name, guitarist swings the guitar around his shoulder, etc. The song isn't actually terrible really, but the repetition and the feel that I've already heard this back in the mid 90's is enough for me to lower the score below average.

New song is from Refused - Tannh?user / Deriv?

Invalid Video Link

The quality at times isn't that great and the video itself is pretty lame IMO. Just pay attention to the music the best you can.

The reason I'm posting this is because I want to show what I used to be heavily into as a kid. Hailing from Ume?, Sweden; Refused broke up in 1998 after releasing their last album, which this song comes from called "The Shape Of Punk To Come." They helped me get away from the typical heavy radio stuff when I first heard them in the mid 90's and were a staple in getting me into much more diverse music just before discovering Coldplay. Some of Refused's older stuff is questionable, but as they got older they put out diverse post-hardcore music. This song was the perfect example of what good you can do with screaming hardcore music. You get the unexpected instead of being able to predict what is going to happen next.

Most notable is their track "New Noise." Which had a funny music video to it because they poked fun at the wave of masked bands that were coming out at the time. If you check the video you can see that they don't look the way you would probably assume.

Another reason I'm posting this is because I constantly keep hearing their songs being used on television lately. First during the Bulls game live, then the pre-game show a few days later and now last night during the opening of a hockey game. Like as if it were calling me back for another listen. Strange to see them getting recognition almost a decade later. Doesn't hold ground to other artists and bands I listen to more frequently these day, but they were different and clearly still blow away any of that nu-metal stuff coming out of the woodwork.

Anyway, sorry for the long write out, just thought I'd put some interesting bits down.

C- It was just a little too hardcore and out there for me. The video was a bit weird like you said too.

Ozzy - "Mama I'm coming home"

This is the first song I remember liking when I was little and I mean little. For some reason, it just stuck to me....

What did you think of the ending? Can't you give more feedback? That is the point of the thread.

Sorry for not giving much feedback, I'm in class right now and I'm trying to listen to it with headphones. If I get caught I'm toast
happysad.gif

Anyways, I listened to the end and that's how I figured it was out there. How do you go from hardcore to harmonica? It just makes no sense IMO. I just don't really get into this kind of music, just too slow for me and never picks up any momentum or anything. I also had a hard time understanding them, were they speaking english the whole way through? Sorry I didn't give you more feedback, I would give more if I could but this song just bore me to death

I'm not really a big Ozzy/Black Sabbath fan, but that was a good track. Loved the instrumentals.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Nobody Weird Like Me
Invalid Video Link

I've actually got that video on my computer --- vintage Chilis, a great example of how great they were in the early 90's. If you track their progression, from the late 70's to the mid 80's to the early 90's to the Navarro era to now, you'll see that their sound has truly evolved more than any other mainstream band in the history of rock.

If your car has a good bass system, definitely put on this track, it's got a very distinguishable bassline.

The outro is also cool as hell, probably the best part of the song. I've always wished they made it into a separate track.

New Song:

Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing

Little Wing - A

Jimi, one of my all-time favorites. The man who got me into classic rock. He was out of this world. Little Wing is a really beautiful and soulful song, you can really get into it and just feel the energy. I remember Frusciante said he thought it sounded like 3 guitars, and it does, was it really one guitar, or two? Anyways, amazing song. And speaking of Frusciante...
