Static-X - The Only -
D
Now I'm not a heavy music hater or anything like that, just the only Static-X song I ever liked was "Push It." They're just like every nu-metal/industrial hardcore band out there that you hear on the radio. The lyrics are terrible teenage-angst annoyance. Typical verse/chorus/repeat and then top it all off with a distortion mute pause ending like almost every single band in the genre does. They live off of an image and they always are the same. Wayne has big hair to go along with the band name, guitarist swings the guitar around his shoulder, etc. The song isn't actually terrible really, but the repetition and the feel that I've already heard this back in the mid 90's is enough for me to lower the score below average.
New song is from Refused - Tannh?user / Deriv?

The quality at times isn't that great and the video itself is pretty lame IMO. Just pay attention to the music the best you can.
The reason I'm posting this is because I want to show what I used to be heavily into as a kid. Hailing from Ume?, Sweden; Refused broke up in 1998 after releasing their last album, which this song comes from called "The Shape Of Punk To Come." They helped me get away from the typical heavy radio stuff when I first heard them in the mid 90's and were a staple in getting me into much more diverse music just before discovering Coldplay. Some of Refused's older stuff is questionable, but as they got older they put out diverse post-hardcore music. This song was the perfect example of what good you can do with screaming hardcore music. You get the unexpected instead of being able to predict what is going to happen next.
Most notable is their track "
New Noise." Which had a funny music video to it because they poked fun at the wave of masked bands that were coming out at the time. If you check the video you can see that they don't look the way you would probably assume.
Another reason I'm posting this is because I constantly keep hearing their songs being used on television lately. First during the Bulls game live, then the pre-game show a few days later and now last night during the opening of a hockey game. Like as if it were calling me back for another listen. Strange to see them getting recognition almost a decade later. Doesn't hold ground to other artists and bands I listen to more frequently these day, but they were different and clearly still blow away any of that nu-metal stuff coming out of the woodwork.
Anyway, sorry for the long write out, just thought I'd put some interesting bits down.
