im really curious if hes gonna play fast all the time and take questionable shoots (like westbrook), which is how hes been playing so far or hes gonna be able to get himself under control going forward

hes athletic and hes relying on that too much, which isnt necessarily a bad thing right now, cause he doesnt have a reliable jumper

I wonder if teams are playing off Scoot more than RW and DR. Those two weren't good 3pt shooters, but they could shoot about 30%. Scoot's shot is coming around more, but he was under 10% much of the season. I think he'll get more "blow bys" respect his shot.

last night he was 5/12 on two pointers (i dont know how many layups he missed, but i do remember two badly missed layups)

once he cleans that up, his scoring numbers will bump, which will obviously make him look better (lets say he makes those two layups, thats 21 pts game, which looks better than 17 pts game)

but im guessing there were more missed layups, i dont think he took five mid range shots

19 years old, only 20 games played

im more optimistic now than i was at the beginning of the season (it sounds ridiculous, but thats how terrible he was), i needed scoot to give me some encouraging signs and he did

I wonder if there are any.

Giannis...maybe

it's a quibble, but Scoot didn't do it either. 75 feet would have been him getting the ball inside of the 3 point line. He got it about halfway between the 3 point line and halfcourt so it was really around 60 feet

Per ESPN, all his missed 2's were in the restricted area.

Scoot's free-throw percentage is at 79.6% for the season, 85.3% for the month of December.

3-point shooting is 30% so far in December, which I think is about what most people expected.

It's the 2-point shooting that is lagging so hopefully there will be an improvement there in the next couple months.

Players with a game of at least 17 points and 11 assists and no more than 1 turnover at age 19 (all time):

Marbury
Luka (twice)
LaMelo
Booker
Scoot

He was slowed down by summer league and regular season injuries but Scoot’s going to be a star. He’s already one of the best young point guards ever.

Scoot has been playing not-terrible for the most part lately. He even played good last night. There's been improvement every month.

It's been encouraging to see that he's probably not an abysmal player. But we still don't know if we have the next Markelle Fultz on our hands. I'm not celebrating yet (or thinking about trading Simons).
Scoot playing better than rookie Fultz. But if you didn’t watch him play last year, I’m here to tell you Fultz is a good point guard now.

Much of the season? Much of the season hasn’t even been played yet. He started like 2/19 or something like and he’s been decent since then. But we haven’t even played 30 games yet and he was injured for a substantial portion. He’s already up to 25% from three despite the awful start.

He's a serviceable starter, but not even a borderline all-star. That will Scoot's future if he doesn't develop a decent shot.

My point there was addressing the "blow by" percentage. My contention is that he'll drive past more people when teams start respecting his shot.

For the people who bash Scoot’s shooting, he’s shooting 37% from 3 since he came back from injury. That’s a 15 game sample. For some reason, everyone judges him on his first 5 games.

I think you're looking at his overall %. I'm seeing 17/54, which is 31%. Not good but decent. The problem is, every players overall 3pt% includes whatever cold spells they had. We don't know how much of an abberation his cold streak was. So if you cut out any given players worst games, that only moves the bar as to what a decent % is.

But his TS% went up +5% in November and then another +6.5% in December, so it's trending upward.

Scoot doesn't really need to become a good shooter in order to become a good player. He just needs to be average.

Yeah, he just needs to be a threat to hit an open three so teams can't sag off of him. What he also needs is to not just pull up off the dribble without getting his feet set... that shit is not falling at this point and most of the guys who are highly effective doing that have a much nicer stroke than Scoot.

If he's willing (which he obviously is) and able to make set threes at an average clip then it opens up all of the very very promising parts of his game.
