Useless stat of the year!
Yeah, there's all of this talk on here about Scoot not being the elite level run/jump athlete that he was supposed to be. This worthless stat proves that talking point wrong. Out of all of the bursts of speed in the NBA this season, one of Scoots has been the fastest. That proves unequivocally that at least for north/south speed the dude is the elite of the elite.

I timed Scoot at 4 seconds from the time he got the ball to the time he released his shot in this sequence. That's about as fast as it gets.

What does sprint speed have to do with run/jump athlete? De’Aron Fox is fast as fuck. I don’t see him dunking on people like Ja Morant or Russ. Nor would I consider him as explosive as those guys (or prime Rose LOL).

Tony Parker if I recall was faster than Dwayne Wade. Parker is obviously the better run/jump athlete. :biglaugh:

Hyperbole, ever heard of it?

If not, let me simplify it for you, genius:

They aren’t on the same level athletically — and it’s not close.
So you're sticking with the guy who has shown the fastest burst of speed in the league this season and looks about as big and strong for their height isn't close to as athletic as Russ was at his best??? Has the league just withered on the vine in terms of athleticism over the last four or five seasons?

I'm not saying that I'm sure Scoot is or ever will be quite as athletic as Russ but it is and will be close.

Yeah, I’m going to stick with that.

And once again — I’ll bring up the dunk percentages. Scoot misses about half his dunk attempts. The people you’re comparing him to have over 90% dunk percentages.

Scoot isn’t even close to the athlete those guys are. I’m really not interested in having this conversation (again). You can see it in the draft thread if you want to go through that heap again.

But I’ll be nice and leave this link: https://deanondraft.substack.com/p/how-athletic-is-scoot-henderson

No clue who he is, nor was he the guy who originally was talking about Scoot blowing an absurd amount of dunks, but he has a decent summary.

Scoot is a good/great athlete. Russ, Morant, Rose are arguably some of the best athletes to ever play NBA basketball. So they would be .01% athletes. Even if Scoot was .02 (which he isn’t) that’s a world of difference from .01%.

Have at it. Hope he is good. Hope he is a better athlete than I realize.

this substack write up makes me scared that scoot may be nothing more than an average starter

He made a nice assortment of shots last night. Dunks, floaters, mid-range, and 3s.
The first dunk was encouraging. Anytime a guard can take off outside the restricted area and throw it down with force..... is impressive.

Looked like the game was starting to slow down for him a bit last night. Hopefully this continues to be the trend for him.

On the other hand, he had a really dumb turnover on his first possession of the game, later got his pocket picked because he wasn't paying attention to the ball while he was trying to direct the offense, seemed to get locked up by THT every time they faced off, repeatedly got lost on defense after a few swing passes (though he was certainly not alone in that), and the vast majority of his highlights occurred after the game was already far out of reach and the white flag had been raised.

He did have a few nice plays yesterday, and his natural abilities were certainly on display, but I personally wouldn't use last night as evidence that he's turning the corner.

The fact is that when Shaedon reclassified he was ahead of Scoot in that draft class. We gave him all season and didn't really see any sort of consistency until the last month of the season. Scoot is the same age as Shae was and honestly I think Ignite prepares guys to play in this league about as much as Shae practicing with Kentucky. The games mean nothing on Ignite and Scoot played 18 games in two years.

I think both guys are going to be great but both have/had a very steep learning curve. I think if you have a guy like Schmitz then you can roll the dice on guys like these but for the most part professional ball in Europe or Australia or the traditional route of playing your senior year in high school and then freshman year in NCAA prepares guys much better than skipping all of that (Shae) or Ignite (Scoot).

Patience is key with Scoot and we can have a ton of it because we have Ant and right now Brogdon.

I’m so happy for Scoot. He’s really figuring some things out.
To me these last two games he's looked much more under control. He's not going 100mph every time he touches the ball. He's seeing things and then making his move instead of making his move first in an out-of-control manner.

There's a lot to love about the kid and his mindset, especially given the shit he's taken his first couple months. But he's definitely starting to figure it out. I could care less about his jump shooting percentage if I'm being honest. That part of his game will develop, he's got a good stroke. I just want to see him more decisive in the pick & roll, and turning the ball over less. Not concerned with his ability to get to the cup and finish. Needs to keep working on staying out of foul trouble.

his slashing game looked much better this game (finally showed that athleticism), was able to get to the rim & finish

more of the same please (oh, and 10 ast isnt bad either)
