SPURS @ BLAZERS - GAME THREAD

Who knew. If you give Oden the ball and let him get game experience on the offensive end of the court he give you even more on the defensive end, and if you start Andre Miller he can in fact make Brandon Roy better by giving him easier looks (Blake gave him some nice assists too).

I think the biggest change for Oden was that he calmed down on offense and defense, and played in control for once. Once he made a couple of shots, he became someone worth going into, and they took advantage of it.

I wonder if would have withstood their rally if Parker had been available.

Seriously awesome game by GO and pretty good from BRoy, but our perimeter defense is lacking.

Interesting split: in the 2009 calendar year, we're 2-0 when injuring the opponent's starting PG in the first half.

Great win. Let's give Nate the game ball for his incredibly gutsy starting lineup and just a perfect rotation. Nate, I salute you.

Roy and Oden were huge.

And Travis clutch Outlaw came up with a bigtime shot again.

Liked that Nate went with Oden even though he got his 5th. Props to Oden for defensive smarts. Still effective even though he had to give up on a couple of plays to keep from fouling out. In truth, he should never try to block in those situations anyway. It's awesome to see that he's learning that.

And you know that McMillan isn't smart enough to realize that and adjust accordingly. We clearly should be injuring opposing point guards in each game. But we almost never do.

Totally agree. And, since Oden is picking up random fouls anyways, might as well have some of them be extra "damaging".

I know! We're also +2 in plays where we have 6 guys on the floor, but do we go back to that well? :dunno:

I just want to add: Dejuan Blair looks like a Zach post-microfracture surgery, but with no jumpshot... ugh. No leap whatsoever, just big and kinda slow out there. I'm sure he performs better in other situations, but he was mediocre tonight.

Min, @Mem, @MIN, @NO, @CHA, the next week, gotta go 3-2 and hopefully 4-1

Do you know what a bailout three is? Guys are dumping him the ball with 2 or 3 seconds left when he's got no time to set a play, drive or dish. That's on other guys, not Miller.

It's on Miller for not getting them a decent shot before that. He's getting the ball to them late, when they're covered, so they give it back.

Yeah, having that situation happen more than once is painful. They worked it out though, and had Blake play PG on the halfcourt sets after that.

Good solid effort by all, obviously including the coaches.

Hopefully this starts the team on a roll. Totally correct game ball to Nate and I would add Oden. Big helping of crow for me and many others. Love the idea of Blakey as a security blanket can't wait until he's replaced by Martell.

On both possessions that I'm thinking of Miller didn't touch the ball until late in the clock or got the ball off of a botched play. Nice try anyway.

When San Antionio was making their run at the end, Miller was dribbling a little too long. A few possessions he took jumpers that were *shiver*.

That's a rugged looking pimple on Miller's cheek... I half expect it to pop on his defender if he gets hit there.

I just hope it's not Miller that pops or we stay with just the pimple for our cap space. That would not be good.

McMillan says he really likes the 3-guard lineup, and will try it again. Sorry, B-Roy! :devilwink: He also like Bayless as the Microwave. He's hinting at more minutes for Bayless, too.

Bayless getting significant minutes off the bench would be a nice development, I think.

Definitely. Bayless with 12 minutes a night where he's the centerpiece on offense could really be exactly what the 2nd unit needs.

No doubts. Love Rudy - but there is one thing he just can not do like Bayless - and that's taking it hard to the rim.

*sigh*

Once we encounter any of the other WC playoff teams, it's going to be ugly.

Soooo.... what you're saying is the Spurs, who most pundits predict to finish 2nd in the west, don't count?

Miller was passed the ball late in the shot-clock and was forced to shoot long jumpers... both of the shots I remember weren't exactly his fault. But why don't you go ahead and continue to think that way, it looks like you're having so much fun. I'll just take my facts and go home.

I think we match up terrifically with San Antonio. Not so much with other teams who play at a faster pace.
