I knew Layman would make strides this season....early on when we were drafting nobody agreed with me...now I must go pat myself on the back and gloat a bit

Layman and Simons are troubling, obviously 3rd year Layman more than Simons. I don't count Trent - drawing fouls is like passing to yourself

I'd be a lot more troubled by the lack of assists, except none of these guys are handling the ball and initiating the offense a ton. Simons has been playing the 2, Trent the 3 and Layman the 4. Baldwin is doing most of the ballhandling and getting these guys the ball in position to take makeable shots.

If they were taking a ton of bad shots and missing open people, I'd be more concerned, but that hasn't been the case from what I've seen. And two of these guys are 19-year-olds and the other is a stretch-4.

If this is the worst things to take away from summer league, we all should be thrilled.

I am actually thrilled.

I bet if you looked at the percentage of times he not only brought the ball up and initiated the offense, the percentage would be pretty low, even for summer league. Baldwin and Ware have been doing that much more.

And yeah, you'd think maybe he'd get an assist by accident, although he might have missed out on some assists for a very reason you mentioned: The guy receiving the pass has to shoot and score. If he doesn't, well, no assist.

Among players who played 3 games, Caleb Swanigan led the league in "Rebounds+Assists" with 15 per game (10 rpg + 5 apg).

The bad news: He averaged 29% from the field.
