... for whoever we tell you to...

Or you can choose to not vote, or vote for someone with no chance whatsoever of being elected. Or vote Republican.

There are rational choices, and there are irrational choices.

Disliking the rational choice doesn't mean someone is forcing you to make it.

Or, and I'm just spitballing here, we could actually make it a competition in which the person with the best ideas wins...

I like the goal, but I'm not sure how you get there. Please present a detailed plan of action.

What are the best ideas? Does everyone agree on that? Do people currently vote based on who has the worst ideas? Would you remove those people's ability to vote?

I would put an emphasis on debates and fact checking. Far more debates, far greater fact checking.

Only a fraction of the population is willing to watch debates or pays any attention to fact checking. I'm in favor of more of those things too, but I kinda doubt it would make much difference.

Well, you could have immediate fact checks during debates and have the number of lies below each of the candidates on the screen.

But, yeah people are going to believe what they are going to believe fact check or not.

Could be, but in this day and age there is no reason not to do it, except to protect your guy.

It would take time, but it would be a step in the right direction. And I think it would make a difference over time.

Good point, if you are someone who thinks 'the system is corrupt', there's no reason to ever believe a fact-check.

Yeah, we need to focus more on the important things like education and stop focusing on political crap that is statistically insignificant. That's a waste of political capital and democrats can't afford that.

If you don't think our political system is corrupt... I just don't know where to go from there...

Biden is a joke and the Dems have NO backup plan for the next election that will be here before we know it.
Maybe they are having discussions about a plan as they did when it became apparent Bernie would possibly win the nomination. They executed that plan in quick fashion.
I'll go with I bet they talk him into retiring and promote Kamala for a presidential run.

Ugh. This is the best they can do? She is totally unqualified. I would take Pete B over her. How can they not get a smart person with relevant experience under the age of 70? Unbelievable

Yeah, Pete could be the chosen one, by the DNC. Id vote for him. maybe?

Should there be an age limit on when someone can run for POTUS? Biden will be 81 in 2024.

Yes I believe there should be an age limit. Joes going through the motions like anyone could if you'd been on the job as long as he. I know, been there. I retired when I knew I didnt have the grit and drive I did when younger in position. I could have easily hung on, gone through the motions/skated as I knew the industry well and was secure in my position.

There should be an age limit for presidents, congresspeeps, and judges.

I personally would set the limit at 70.

But exceptions should be allowed, if the person can prove rigorously that s/he's more 'there' than peers half his/her age. Mental acuity tests, physical fitness, public speaking, writing, every test of every sort that has ever been devised. It should be rare to successfully qualify for an exception.

I'm not even sure what you mean when you say our political system is corrupt. It's an imperfect system, designed by people who couldn't fully imagine what might happen 200+ years later. It's a pile of antique compromises held together with rusty wire and dried-out masking tape.

But corrupt? There are some people in the system that are corrupt, sure. I don't think the system itself is corrupt per se, it's just poorly designed, and naturally humans are going to take advantage of its weaknesses. That's the kind of thing humans do.

A couple of Churchill quotes:

"Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…"

Obviously ours isn't really a democracy, so it's one of those other forms.

"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

The root problem in my view is not the system being corrupt, it's the voters and their "I don't care enough to pay attention" attitudes.

What's hilarious is that everyone bitches about how old Biden is. Trump will be just as old as Biden when he started this term if he were to be elected in 2024. But, thats a-ok for Trumpies if its Donny. But not any democrats.

No old people. We need someone that is 40-60.
Because Trumpers are fucking idiots

One of the biggest problems we have without question is our vice-grip on dumb shit written forever ago. It’s all outdated. Let’s start with the Bible.

cor·rupt
/kəˈrəpt/
1.
having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain

Our system is set up to encourage this behavior. We call it lobbying. And it has replaced official, non-partisan divisions which politicians used to be able to meet with to seek expert advice from.
