109. What is tampering?

Tampering is when a player or team directly or indirectly entices, induces or persuades anybody (player, general manager, etc.) who is under contract with another team in order to negotiate for their services. The NBA may impose suspensions and/or fines up to $50,000 if tampering is discovered, however the league's practice has been to wait until a team lodges a complaint before investigating (but that's not to say they don't continue to monitor the league and won't take action independently if they discover that tampering has occurred). Here are some examples:

Who is Aldridge currently under contract with?

Portland, until July 1 the official end of the season, or until we renounce his rights I believe.

I was thinking you were responding to Lillard talking to Aldridge, but you were probably talking about Melo. My bad.

Nope. See my post above.

It might be a written rule but it's never been enforced. What matters is how the rules are applied not how you or me interpret the language. Players are free to informally recruit other players and the league has said they won't interfere with it.

Perhaps think of it as players are free to casually talk to other players about where they play in their free time away from either team. But they can't bring a potential free agent into the practice facility or official team property or talk with team management.

You are right. Hardwood classics told me he already talked with the league and they said they don't enforce this rule.

Why the fuck have it if you aren't going to enforce it? Take the fucking rule off then!

The NBA can't interfere with the personal lives of players (employees) when they are away from their jobs. It's just not a fight worth their time. Management is different. But it's best to leave the rule there or it would be even more blatant recruiting.

I'm pretty sure Wade, Bosh and James talked before joining forces in Miami

As I said, then take out that part of the rule.

Reports are that LAL is willing to throw in D'Angelo Russell to a deal to get Boogie.

Edit: Or maybe not actually. There are conflicting reports.

Do we look into this?

Done and done

I would take DeRozan. He's exactly the kind of third star that I would like to have.

I would rather have DeRozan then Gay but I do see them in basically the same mode. A lot of skills but inefficient shot maker with questionable selection at times.

Wow... he isn't making much at all. We could easily absorb his contract.

Yeah the catch with him is the payday he receievs after this season. If the stars align, I don't think we worry too much about that next summer anyway

If he had a crazy season, it would be worth it. Trade for DeRozan, sign Aminu, start Plumlee.

Dame
DeRozan
Aminu
LA
Plumlee

So...How do we get DeRozan...instead of some other team?

If we actually trade a chip right now, like Noah for example, that would be very very tempting. We would get an all star for basically nothing. Then we would have Max to through at Aldridge and max to through at another player. Or maybe the Hibbert for $5 mil in salary and cap space, then have $7 mil to toss somewhere else
