We must have totally different memories of Jermaine. He was a talented up and comer when he was here but stuck behind Brian Grant, Sabonis, and Rasheed Wallace. The Blazers only roadblock to a title was Shaq and Dale Davis had played him as well as anyone in the finals. I still don’t think Jermaine would’ve faired better defending Shaq than Dale. The Blazers were mortgaging the future for the best players they could get to play today. We had just resigned Jermaine to a 4 year contract so management obviously thought very highly of him. The chance came to acquire an all-star so the team decided to take that deal. Jermaine was thought of very highly by fans and management of the Blazers during all 4 of his years here. Jermaine hustled on the court and showed glimpses of something special. Meyers has never displayed similar potential.

Yes, we do have completely different memories of Jermaine. I remember Jermaine playing like shit any time he actually got on the floor. We couldn't afford to put up with his growing pains because we were title contenders and we had Sheed and Grant.

Word. I was rooting for him big time but remember the same thing. Very similar feeling to Meyers in how painful it was to watch him.

Meyers is really bad at basketball. He probably won't get much better if this is as good as he's gotten in 21 years.

He should not be playing at all, but unless we sign or trade for someone better, he'll be suiting up every game.

Lol, kinda ironic coming from a 21 year old yourself. You do realize he's only played center for a handful of years right?

How is it ironic? I've played center less than Meyers, but if I was 7'1", I'd be a lot better at it than he is. He's a decent athlete (not even the best in his class), but he's not good at basketball and he just doesn't seem able to comprehend how to learn and get better. He's stupid and not very talented, but he's semi athletic so he'll get better for sure!

Oh you're right.

How much of this is just a result of increased minutes? Is there a jump in the per 36 production?

That's possible. I don't follow these players closely. I tried to pick players that some were ready to give up on and they managed to turn their careers around. If they did it because they got the opportunity, then Leonard can't really be put in that category. But if they turned it around based on their play got better, then maybe it can happen to Leonard?

The trade exempt alone could have Olshey in position to obtain a player, especially if another team needs to dump salary for a said player.

Again, that doesn't have to be done now.

Please list the players that could be obtained for that trade exemption that have more Net Present Value than Meyers.

I think we should dump Williams. He's a skinny Raymond Felton.

What are you basing this on? Semi-athletic? Really? LOL

The guy is awkward on the floor and very lost. What really concerns me is rebounding and defense is really not THAT hard IMO it's more effort and will, yet he shys away from everything.

Again guys, he's played 16 minutes this year - 11 of them against the best center in the league. We might want a slightly larger sample size before we start talking about cutting him.

And, just to illustrate the dangers of a small sample size: Right now Meyers Leonard has PER = 16.2 and a WS/48 of 0.220, highest on the team. But, since it's only been 16 minutes, I will hold off on submitting my write in ballot for him to make the All-Star team until he's played a little more.

I would trade Freeland, Claver and a choice of Crabbe or Barton to Milwaukee Bucks for Zaza Pachulia after December 15th of course.

No way Milwaukie does that deal. Zaza is tearing it up. He has a PER = 27.6, a WS/48 of .329, am ORtg of 137 and a DRtg of 99. And, he's actually played 78 minutes. So, he's no flash in the pan. The guy is a total stud. We'd probably have to give them Aldridge and Lillard to pry Pachulia from them.

Would you give Mathews to land Pachulia?

Yes there’s players that make significant improvements but you can see that potential when you watch them. They are close to making a play but can’t quite get to the ball before another player. They almost make a block but the offensive player completes a slightly superior play. Guys like Thomas Robinson, you can see flashes of him that impress you with his rebounding. Thomas makes other bonehead plays and that is the reason he isn’t on the court more.

The problem with Meyers is he doesn’t have any flashes on defense or rebounding. None at all! He is never close to being effective. He is never one step away. His only skill is jump shooting, which is the least useful skill a center can possess.

lol. I like how everyone still glosses over that he's not even 22.

Yes he's 21 ... and doesn't appear to have a single instinct required to play center in the NBA, but I'm sure it's going to turn around if he just gets another year.

Let's be real, to get another quality big man, we would have to give up someone like Batum.

Best bet is looking for a team to salary dump with the upcoming free agent bonanza. Gortat was out there . . . and other bad team with high priced center?

Come on now, no one is saying for sure it will turn around. This thread is about if the team should cut him.

Leonard's numbers for the season.

PER 16.5

Per/36 - 14 points/9 rebounds/0 blocks
Ortg - 168
Drtg - 112

I think he needs more minutes, not less. He's playing better than Lopez at this point.

Ortg - 99

People need a scape goat.... regardless of the fact that he almost never plays.
Nate. Nate. Nate. We have to cut Meyers Leonard immediately. He's our third string center and he only plays as a last resort. He got outplayed by Dwight Fucking Howard and Omer Fucking Asik, for christ's sake. Leonard is the only thing holding us back. Just dump him. Then the next time Freeland is out, we can play Batum at backup center. Then we can dump him.

The idea of cutting him struck me as silly, it's not as though they need an extra open roster spot.

Nobody has said we should cut him. The team needs to at least try to get a trade exception for him. He'd be very valuable to a team trying to lose.

oh yea? how about the OP.

I think it may be time for a trade or a release Meyers thread. I was onboard with giving him this year but I just can't stand seeing him on the floor! As hard as it is to believe he looks worse than last year, what a horrible pick

And it's obvious he is a woman stuck in a man's body to boot!

Naw. Leonard needs some coaching, playing time and more coaching.
He will eventually be better than Lopez I expect, shoots a hell of a lot better right now.
