no doubt, and yeah it kind of surprises me, due to the budget cuts over decades with NASA, tho' Musk has his vision, and no doubt in time it will happen. I'd hate to see Nukes launched, yet I don't trust either the NORKS or Iran.

I'm kind of surprised this nation hasn't found a way to neutralize the lil' dick, his dad and grandad, over all these years. I think there's been more than discussions with China, or so I hope...
One would hope China could neutralize the regime, tho' a madman can't be bartered with....

...I actually think that Musk or some other individual or private company has a better chance of interplanetary colonization than our bureaucratic government.

^^^^....
with all the bs govt's in-ability to fund massive programs let alone agree upon anything period; and the pitiful lack and loss of capital due to fraud, waste in such program's over decades; the dollar figures are beyond belief. That is, programs funded that never come to fruition, then put off and on again, funding ghosts of programs.... since latter 70's- eg, "The Orient Express", and/or "Star Wars" shield programs, .... tho' some headways have been made, nothing near as originally proposed and planned; more importantly appropriated, paid for, with no finished products on time, not even close...

what did come out of the OE and SW's, came 2-3 decades after such programs were paid for time and time again, what we should of had in space in the year 2012, died on a engineers drawing board(s) in the latter 80's....again paid for with duplicated program re-starts, changing major sub=contractors over and over decades.... The tech learned from such, wouldn't come to any form of fruition physically until lately with an unmanned recovery mini-space shuttle. With a few methods of shielding America, also decades after their initial ECD...

So yeah, a private entrenpeneur stands to go beyond, faster and further than our screwed up broken systemic failures in govt, and NASA....

Obviously this administration will likely punt on NASA as a priority unless someone explains that the tallest structures on the Moon and Mars could be designed and built on his watch.

All the private sector work is encouraging, but to my mind most ventures are approaching space as a bucket list tourism scam. There are no signs that this sector is in it for the long haul where profits are reinvested to drive technology forward. This is where govt sponsored activities coupled to strategic interests have thrived for us, Russia, china and the EU to a smaller extent.

For the private sector to be viable there needs to be plans for the democratization of space (i.e., affordable for most), and NASA needs to set standards. NASA should be working to be the ANSI for all things above 100km.

1- LMAO, a reference to the businessman developer potus??? Trump Bio-Dome on the Moon....hehehe

2- good point Tote, I just read an article with Musk on his approach, much like a Realtor's. "We're targeting homeowners, who would pay 200K for a house, can go to Mars for as much". Imo, Musk is vastly under estimating the rolling up of future increases in costs, big time.....

3- Tote, do you mean NASA should fall under ANSI? I'd have no probs with that.
NASA Programs tho' do work under ANSI requirements, specifications, for engineering only.... at least when I worked, tho' the Contractors have taken an ISO approach to business, not sure what the future holds in these different methods of approach....

doesn't make sense does it? Engr to ANSI, drum up business with ISO, then build to ANSI.

I mean you can have a half dozen outfits right now vying for orbital ops. Would be key to have them all using std and compatible comms, docking systems, critical components (life support, batteries, co2 filters, etc) so there is some type of cross platform uniformity for safety purposes.

indeed.

The big question or dose of future reality, is: how long before this goes from an ANSI to a global ISO environment. Indeed all 'outfits' s/b working to ANSI, but how long before funds fall short, even from private sectors. How long before some politician sells us on: "we won't get there without intl., support". Then the entire concept becomes as tainted as the world of intl turmoil left behind. Or do nations find true peace in space endeavours; like grown men find peace in their dogs world...Can doggism find a way into mankinds learning how to bridge differences. cuz there's always some who eat dogs, instead of turn 'em into mans best friend...

where the fk did that come from. I went' off on a tangent, whats new eh??....gotta' be the drugs, booze, jp4 fumes - "geez I picked a great day to stop doing" ________x

...^^^ wow, just wow...gotta love the internet. (copy and paste without verifying)

..."certified not to be fake"?...really?...by whom ?

... without trying to refute the entire list, some of those claims may be true but others are either false, misleading, inaccurate, or very disputable. And some "accomplishments" on this cherry-picked propaganda list are in spite of Trump, not because of him.

...sorry, I award you no points.

...right...you premised your post as "certified not to be fake" but now you admit that it "did quite a bit of spinning ".

I think he makes an interesting point about perspectives. What if Kelly were scolding Trump or W was calling out the lefts hypocrisy. Both statements could be applied either way. And that does say volumes about current state of our body politic.

Yep, I found that much quit interesting indeed....^^^

I totally agree, No Nukes, not ever the way to anything other than death of the planet, as well as every living thing, being, et al....

Not sure why the fk the Feds are buying mini-nukes, when our arsenal has some big (non-nukes), ie MOAB's, and several other extremely lethal technologies; not known to the public,....

"RFG" - A easy resolution to the end of Nuclear proliferation, the end of the Nuclear Age....

One Question tho', IF the US or Japan were to be hit with a NORK Nuke, what would you do to retaliate??? No nukes????

I would send them endless transmissions of the rotten TV shows Honey Boo-Boo and Real Housewives of NJ which is guaranteed psychological torture, media press photos of Kaepernick and season passes to Baltimore Ravens games. lol

strawman Matts....there is no choice. Any nuclear use against US or US ally must be retaliated with superior nuclear force to maintain future deterrence. As for concern for children and gradchildren I dont begrudge anyone for those sentiments, I just like to look longer term in the context of the survivability and prosperity of all of the USA. As I said before, nukes go away only when we have something even more potent and expedient. Which by the way will look something like a disintegration ray that only vaporizes humans and leaves everything else intact. We are not that far off with certain medical laser/radiation technologies....power sources are key to most modern tech.

...^^^ Matts' stance is a "strawman" argument?... sorry, but I don't see it that way. And neither do I agree that nuclear retaliation vs N. Korea is the only solution.

...but yeah, your futuristic "disintegration ray" is really relevant if N. Korea were to launch nukes today.

...and you've ready informed us that we need to grasp "the reality of WW III" and the inevitability of it but you still fail to acknowledge and grasp reality that in the event of an all out nuclear war there will very likely be no "survivability and prosperity" of the US or for the entire planet for that matter.

I think we tried as much, that could be the reason why the Lil' Dicktator is off his rocker....

Sorry Ron but yes indeed the US will survive and prosper through an all ou WW3. We have been preparing for this longer than anyone. You may not like who gets to survive, but there would be many survivors.

MAD was a media ruse, our underlying doctrine has always been about emerging from WW3 as the victor.

Of course if things start to really heat up I’d recommend an extended holiday in Switzerland because most of that country will survive as well.

...you're just like Trump, you say shit that you cannot quantify...I've asked you multiple times with no answer, but I'll ask again...after a nuclear Winter, with little sunlight for months exactly who is suppose to manufacture the spacecraft and implement this master plan of yours?...sorry, but if that happens, the world economy would collapse.

..."the US will survive and prosper"?...seriously?...based on what?...where do you get this shit?

...please, once and for all, please outline this science fiction fantasy of yours? ...and will you be included with your supposed space travelers?...how about your children...what will be the "entry fee"?...how much will it cost each person?...who will be chosen?...who will be left behind?...and why would Switzerland survive?...and please don't say because they are neutral and please don't say because they are protected by the Alps.

...now, you're either talking out of your ass again, or stop tap dancing like you have been lately and offer a tangible answer...if you can.
