There's certain folks claiming Pascal can play center.
Have they ever seen a Raptors game?
Siakam is a big name, but he is not a Center.

He played a lot of center for the Raps last season. Going small ball with him at the 5 at times is an attractive consideration, but I've cooled on the idea of him because of his salary, age, and questionable fit with Grant.

There’s a thought, draft Scoot, start Sharpe at the 2 and have Dame be our “small” (very small) ball center.

We’d only be giving up a little over three rebounds per game (based on last year stats) and would have much better scoring and assists from the C position.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Toronto has a bunch of lanky FORWARDS. They did pretty good on defense last season. Plopping Pascal as the lone big man in Portland with small GUARDS that are not strong defenders, and Jerami playing Pistons style defense, may not work out as envisioned.

Lone big man? No, nobody said that. But his versatility gives you options to go small which can be an advantage.

I don't think that can be your main alignment if you want to be successful.

Siakam's a good rebounder, but, as others have mentioned, the Raptors have length at other positions that mitigate playing someone like Siakam at the 5 when they go small. Their primary 5 still is Poetl.

I don't want to watch Siakam trying to go against Jokic, AD, Sabonis, Ayton, Steven Adams and their like for any real length of time -- that's a recipe for disaster -- especially if Jerami Grant is one of your forwards and Dame and Ant is your backcourt.

ya who needs a 29 yr old all nba caliber forward who put up 24/8/6 last year
obiously, getting siakam would be great, but not for ant + 3rd pick, simple as that and according to me at least, getting only siakam (or brown or bridges or og anunoby) isnt enough to make us contenders (youd have to bet on sharpe making a leap and grant and nurk playing at very high level + wed need roster depth, the very reason why phoenix suns werent able to win the chip this season) and thats just to much of question marks

we need two great players or one great and one really good + roster depth and that would cost us ant, sharpe + 3rd pick and we would need to add more salary (nurk or grant)... if you cant get two players, you dont trade 3rd pick, simple as that, but even if we can get two players, im still reluctant to trade the 3rd pick (this franchise have made multiple wrong franchise altering draft picks and i believe this could be another one, likely not to the same extent, but still the one we could easily regret)

it would be much easier to part with the 3rd pick if we didnt have sharpe who is only 20 yo and who looks like a future all-star, so you can still rebuild for a few years to add few high picks to sharpe & scoot/miller core and then you would be in a great position going forward, its simply a perfect opportunity to hit the reset button (it would suck to lose lillard, but sometimes you have to make gut wrenching decisions)

I think Siakam does make us contenders. But I am struggling with gambling #3 and Ant for a 1-year rental if he decided he did not like Portland. Dame would need to have a heart-to-heart with him and try to gauge what he really truly wants. And even then he could change his mind. But skill-wise he is the best option to fill our biggest need.... a strong PF who can create his own shot and be a pretty good defender.

I think players warm up to living in Oregon, but it often takes a couple of years before they embrace what the area has to offer. One NBA season might not be enough. Tough call

I've never really seen Schmidt's take on Brandon Miller, so I've got no idea.

But his former partner thinks Miller is #2, ahead of Scoot, so I wonder how far he differs.
I don't think Givony is rating him as a better player; he is just saying he thinks Charlotte will pick him.

Moves are always full of risk. But if you don't take any, you'll never know if they would have succeeded.

Completely true. And moves do not always produce the desired results. Making a big trade is just as risky as drafting a player. Some players are just system guys. Others just don't gel with the new teammates. Others are useless due to say a ball dominant point guard. Others may be gazelles and need to run to be effective, but the point guard walks it up. Every move is full of risk as you said.

Well IMO the good news about that is I think more teams are interested in moving up for Scoot than Miller

I've been watching the buildup to drafts for a lot of years and I'm becoming convinced there is more bullshit being sprayed around about this draft, and this class, and team intentions, than any draft I can remember

maybe it's not just the draft...maybe everybody with a microphone, blog, and twitter account is just really full of shit

Every year the internet gets bigger and bigger and everybody/anybody can become a blogger or podcaster. Plenty of opinions leading to plenty of a__holes!

I don’t want to trade the 3rd pick, said it a million times it’s so rare you get the chance to pick in the top 3 in deep draft. I’d give Chicago the 23rd pick to free up our future picks and then use Ant/Nurk, and future 1st rounders in a trade. Make Dame happy go get Ayton or another player with these assets or if Dames not on board trade him but I would not trade the 3rd pick

then throw in 23 and ask for 13 back.

3 + 23 + ant + nas for pascal and 13.

If you believe Givony, I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Although there is so much BS flying right now the logic is what I have been saying long before this article was released:

Finding 6’9 two way, do it all, wings is a lot harder to come by than a 6’2 scoring guard that has defensive question marks.

I have never seen so much smoke about a draft in my life. I really don’t know what’s going to happen.

Any chance that San Antonio shocks the world and picks Scoot? Wemby with 8 points in playoff game, I know not going to happen. I’m a little surprised Wemby is even playing in the playoff game huge risk when you’ve locked up #1 pick and about to sign for millions. Imagine if he blows out knee or tears Achilles.

Injuries can happen to any of these guys.
