Can always depend on Blazer fans being calm, rational and logical when it comes to their reactions to the draft.
I loved both the Scoot/Sharpe picks and was happy with Clingan last year.

I've been a critic of most the vets Cronin has acquired - but actually liked his drafts.

Today on the other hand.... was beyond concerning.

Yang was the target from the beginning

He was the guy

Cronin says he was the best player available

They weren't comfortable going further back than #16 for fear another team would poach him.

We could very well go into next season with 5 centers.

I don't know it...it seems when you have 5 centers that you are probably not keeping two of them to me. Scoot couldn't run a team his first year, he was over his head a few months after the Dame trade and Ant never was a real pt guard. Brogdan was a combo guard as well.
Duop I actually think they might cut ($0 guarantee on his deal)

Timelord is injured most the time and has the ability to play some minutes at PF.

Ayton - I could see them continuing to start him and just say Yang will be buried as 3rd string while he adjust to the NBA.

I don’t care about the 5 centers thing honestly. Ayton, Williams and Reath are not on the team past this season.
Yeah I don't really care about it too much either. Would prefer we just get rid of Ayton even if its for irrelevant scraps. Love Timelord. Duop is irrelevant.

The main issue is we burned two consecutive lottery picks that long term will never be able to even fill 48 minutes combined at one position.

Cronin said there will be an adjustment period for Yang, but that he has a very mature skill set and is strong enough to play against NBA level players. Made it sound like it would be sooner than later he would be ready for the rotation.

if you believe in the core, all 5 starter positions are filled long term.

I liked KJ though because I’m least confident in Scoot and Shaedon, so having a guard that could conceivably play both positions was enticing.

Have the Blazers have been targeting this guy from China for 2 years while knowing the team would be getting sold?

Its not about starting positions - its about fitting into a rotation during a 48 minute game. All of our other core players except Scoot can play multiple positions. So if there is a great backup they can get up to 30 MPG by moving guys around. Lumbering drop coverage plodding centers can't do that. They only have a single position - Center. They can only play it for the minutes the opponent doesn't go small. There are not 48 minutes per game available at this position and we have our last two lottery picks both at that position.

There are 240 minutes available each game. It's very easy to get a guard, wing, forward or big(PF/C) minutes in those 240.

I'd say we have plenty of Centers. My guess is Reath is waved before July 1 when his salary becomes guaranteed for 2025-26.
Grant has never came off the bench for a single game as a Blazer - I'd move Sharpe to the bench and Camara to SG in your picture. Otherwise excellent job!

Yes I agree that I expect we waive Reath - although Spotrac shows his guarantee is Aug1. Unless we find someone useful in free agency - I'm hopeful we can resign Banton. Without Ant we could use his scoring in the 2nd/3rd string.

We probably need a traditional PG for a 2way spot just for Scoot/Jrue injury insurance.

That's what Cronin said, they wanted to draft him last year.

so, they would have taken him at #7?....or would they have taken him at #14 and not done the Avdija trade?

did anybody ask Cronin just how the Blazers would have landed him last season?

Exactly. If you take a swing on Bryant and he pans out, one day he could play the three or maybe the four. What are we gonna do with Clingan and Yang?

He didn't clarify. Just said they wanted to draft him, but he didn't declare so they waited till this year.

all this is irrelevant if you believe Yang is the best player. Not that I like the pick, just saying the rationale.

also, rockets just played Adams and sengun for a non insignificant amount of time in the playoffs, successfully. Just saying.
