Event With the 16th pick, Blazers have selected Hansen Yang

Personally, I love this draft choice and this boldness. We know very well that there can be busts as well as pearls in these drafts and even more after the top 10.
There we go down, we recover future picks and we have the player that the FO wanted.

We already have our starting five with Henderson, Sharpe, Camara, Avdija, and Clingan. All young and yet to develop.
Clingan is the player with the least stamina, it is difficult for him to play at a very high level for more than 30-35 minutes.
We had to find a replacement for him, who would keep the defensive threat, good vision, basketball IQ.
Now, it's up to Schmitz and Cronin to make the right move in the Ayton and Robert Williams deals to bring in veteran players, qualified to strengthen this squad at wingback. What about Grant? Excess motivation or a trade?

1000% agree. So many people crying over this. Same people who cry over everything.
This was a good move and even then we hedged the bet by getting more picks back.
Only fools don't like this move.

Now that I have slept on it....
A bit disappointed. I liked Coward, he is a Northwest guy and Washington State most famous non graduate had Blazers ties (to make an understatement).

But it's clear there is more in the works as far as trade. Agree on Clingan's stamina and need for backup. If Yang needs a year or two to develop while team improves, fine.

Grading draft before players have spent a minute in NBA is rather like grading students before first day of class.

Live from Brooklyn one incredible observation. The Chinese journalist delegation is MASSIVE. They were like 40 medias him for his national media availability.

In comparison I was alone for my guy Yanic that got drafted by the Clippers @30. 1 vs 40 when comparing Switzerland vs China, we still win by a wide margin. But it was impressive to see all these journalists here only because of him.
We're all the China journalist just there for Yang? I'd assume most were just covering the draft in general. Maybe most of them just stayed in the states after the finals.

If our answer to Wemby and Chet is fucking Yang Hansen we should switch places with the Portland Fire

A reasonable person would realize who posted it and not take it seriously when it's implied that the Blazers were looking for the answer to Chet and Wemby with the 16th pick.

Now I know Joe Dumas traded AN UNPROTECTED 2026 PICK that will almost certainly be a lottery pick for the 13th pick I'm more mad we didn't get in on that. Atlanta SCORED. Pelicans get... Derek Queen.

Listening to the BS draft reaction Pod, apparently our new guy did go to the combine and played really well there - supposedly Russilo really liked him.

So, there is something there apparently, both in the "reach" and the FO's worry that he would not be available after. With MN drafting at 17, they probably were really worried about them taking him given that MN's GM is the guy that did the Jokic/Nurkic draft.

As far as a prospect goes.
Yang at 16 >>> Berringer at 17 (this was a much larger reach IMO)

Beringer was mocked in the middle of the first round in numerous mock drafts. I don't think any mocks had Yang in the 1st.

Happy Birthday Yang, from Ha!!

Like I said, it is blurry. Supposedly, that blurry image on the laptop is Yang Hansen. I actually think the shape of the face and hair are a match, even if potato quality.

This deserves to be posted in the Melo thread.

Forget Jokic. Chinese Bill Walton. Throw it down big man!

Watched this video. Will catch more. Sure they are all the same. What I got out of this is his name is pronounced;

Han, as in Han Solo
Sen, as in senator
Yang, as in pong

What is the picture suggesting? The Yippin' Puppies at the next pick, but that could just be people who are tired.

Maybe the photo was taken right after the pick cause Minny was trying to figure out who we drafted and typed his name into google.

I have absolutely no idea if Yang will be a bust, a future All-Star, or (more likely) something in between. I do find it a bit weird that on a Blazers board that got so excited over the Blazers hiring Mike Schmitz for his talent evaluation acumen, people go bananas when the team doesn’t pick the safe player expected by all of the mock drafts. To go with the mixed metaphors, I like taking a swing for a big hit over dinking out grounders. Fingers crossed that it works out great.
