I don't live in a city. That's my mailing address.
I live in rural Deschutes County surrounded by US National Forests in every direction, and my back yard is over 3 acres with 500' of riverfront, a small island, a peninsula across the river, and a gorgeous view of Paulina Peak.
Born and raised in the working class section of Lake Oswego, moved to a hispanic neighborhood in North Hollywood for a year of music school.
Then I lived in SE PDX a few years out of financial necessity when I was a young newlywed, first in the historic lesbian neighborhood around 23rd on Madison, then around 25th on Division.
But somehow the racism, militant lesbians and runaway Crips and Bloods gang crime of the late 70's was not enough allure to hold me there.
Moved to Milwaukie for 23 years and raised my kids there. Nice town, very diverse community, unfortunate that Portland swallowed it whole.
Kids grew up, there was no joy in watching the perpetual decay and crime and corruption and mostly the nonstop noise and choking air pollution so we moved here in 2002 without job prospects and started over, borrowing on my paid off Xterra for living expenses until we found jobs.
Was tough at first, we survived, now we thrive here in Beautiful Central Oregon.
It's a pretty big bubble I guess.
