Milsap YES
Oubre NO
Oubre was having a fantastic year with Phoenix the year before. He was their poster child for The Valley Jersey. GS was a bad fit. I think he would be determined to prove them wrong.

Yes or No?

LOL...yeah, this is what it has come too

after all those weeks talking about Simmons, & Siakam, & Grant, & Beal, & even guys like Nance & Myles Turner....we're now talking Zeller, Snell, and Millsap. The ice-cold bath of Olshey-reality

Not following your logic. Why does one have anything to do with the other?

If Simmons is traded to GS, and we cannot acquire Siakam, i still have hopes for Tobias Harris. A Nurk, Harris, RoCo, Powell, and Dame starting lineup is pretty nice. Backups potentially Milsap, Oubre, Nas, Ant, and Zeller. That has a chance to be pretty damn good on the low side, and great on the high.

Portland already has 13 players signed. So we're talking about one of those or both to be 14 or 14/15

and yeah yeah, I know...Olshey has trades lined up...just wait, and don't bitch until we see what those trades are

that's almost 8 months away....yeah, let's give Olshey till then before we judge what he's done

For sure Dame is leaving

He's had 9 years. I'm not sure what else can change in 8 months that hasn't already been shown.

If you’re ownership you can’t give him until the deadline because that misses the ship.

You’ve got to have time to fire & replace him and let the new GM swing deadline deals.

Realistically he's not getting fired until the end of the season. If he does get fired, it's probably because we got ousted in the first or second round again, and the new GM's first priority is to blow this thing up.

If the alternative is to just run it back, I'd rather just blow it up now. Portland will only have 4 players under contract next season: Dame, CJ, Nas and Norm. If we blow it up in a year, it would mean losing out on getting something for both Covington and Nurkic. Possibly Simons as well.

I'm starting to come around to just nuking it completely, firing Neil, and starting fresh.

I'm not convinced that Neil can put a contender around Dame at this point. Dame's value is never going to be higher. I'm tired of this cloud hanging over the organization.

if you're not a shot-blocker, standing reach doesn't mean much of anything. And defense isn't played with your arms fully extended horizontally

1) Contesting shots (standing reach) isn't of value?

2) Taller players don't play defense with their arms fully extended horizontally any more than shorter players with longer arms do.

1) Contesting shots (standing reach) isn't of value?

not compared to reflex, reaction time, and verticals

2) Taller players don't play defense with their arms fully extended horizontally any more than shorter players with longer arms do.

which is why assuming stand-still wingspan measurements mean better defense is kind of loopy

when it comes to defense, height, size, strength, reflex, reaction time, speed, lateral mobility, experience, BBIQ are all more important than arm length

Listening to Jake Fischer on Spotify:

The Blazers-- the situation right now. Everyone around the league is waiting on Dame to return from Tokyo. He said it on the record that the roster isn't good enough to win a championship, but the team is just making moves around the edges. They have been so far resistant to trading CJ. There were definite talks around Siakam/CJ but they didn't get very far with how highly that franchise values CJ. As such, the expectation around the league is that once Dame gets back, there might still be a potential trade request if the Blazers don't make major moves-- but there is nothing on the horizon.

Oh boy. Fischer just dropped a bomb in such a casual fashion

Fischer on Simmons:

There is a much higher value/opinion of Ben among the NBA front offices than in the media. And Morey is just waiting on Dame. Simmons could be someone that Blazer management/fans could sell to ownership as a guy to build around if Dame demands a trade. There is a very real possibility that the Blazers could be up for sale soon, so this could be a point to consider f Dame wants out.

That's a whole lot of words to just say "maybe"

You can bitch all you want. I am just pointing out that this particular bitch session is pointless. This is the same conversation we all have been having the whole week. Your attempt at discrediting Neil for allegedly going after Oubre or Millsap (for the Mid-level) to strengthen the bench has nothing to do with the All-Stars you mentioned. But hey vent away for the 1000th time, I am sure a few here enjoy it.

By the way, I would still pick Kanter over Zeller.
Me too. But that decision wasn't about talent or ability. It was about money, and I hope to try to leave room to help us get a player better than the two of them put together.

LOL....geeeeezuz

Just gotta laugh at this point.

I can definitively say Toronto and Portland were having talks about Siakam-CJ before the draft. Discussions were about all star caliber players and guys making the same $ and people around the league were talking about it. But from what I was told, Portland did not have significant interest in continuing those conversations.

Makes it seem like convos were initiated from the Toronto side and Neil wasn't interested.

I was about to post how I appreciate how you're listening to all these podcasts and sharing all this commentary with the board, but these ones just make me want to cry.

apparently these greenroom things aren't recorded but Fischer is someone I would listen to everything and anything he says at this point. Had to jump on when I found out he was gonna be on. And nearly every question has some sort of Portland slant since he appears plugged in to our FO.

what I was pointing at was the people here saying "stop the bitching till you see what the final roster is" when the trade deadline was 8 months away and we won't know what the "final roster" is till then

that's a long time to withhold any criticism of the roster

and I was attempting to "discredit" Neil for looking at Millsap or Oubre. Just seeing that those players fit right into his dumpster diving MO, although I guess you can upgrade the description to bargain bin

Really wondering if we're stalling until the team sells.

WUT??

Does this say that Olshey thinks CJ is better, and a better fit, than Siakam??? Am I reading that wrong?

That was my takeaway as well. Either that or something else is stopping Neil from pulling the trigger there.

Olshey will not get another all star on this team. CJ not going bring back that player let be realistic about this.

why would anybody who has followed the Olshey/CJ thing expect anything different?

this has been the case even before Olshey made CJ untouchable in trade talks for Paul George.

the biggest roadblock to Portland building a contender over the last 6 years has been Olshey's idiotic value of CJ

Morey and Olshey are close friends. It is impossible that they haven't had some discussions on what happens in the case of a Dame trade request. I don't think Morey would be holding on this long without at least knowing to some extent that Neil would be interested in a Dame for Simmons trade. This hurts my soul. If we trade Dame for Simmons this year, I would imagine Olshey would even try to parrot it as us trying to compete.

BAHAHAHAHA, I thought it was the other way around. You gotta be shitting me.
