If you could cut one player on our roster (removing their contract from our cap), who would it be?

How could we be, we got Whiteside and a bumch of garbage for six guys? Who besides Whiteside makes us better?
We didn't lose much. I know you have an affinity for Aminu, but we didn't really lose any difference makers. We basically had a role player exchange. Whiteside is better than anything we gave up though. It's really hard to judge when no one is playing in position and everyone is hurt, it was obvious Dame wasn't right tonight too.

Dame - back spasms
Hood - back spasms
Collins - surgery
Nurk - surgery
Carmelo - 40 years old
Tolliver - 40 years old
Whiteside - hip problem
Skal - ankle injury
Ant - Ankle injury

None of this is Stotts’ fault. Phil Jackson would lose to the Cavs with this beaten-up roster. Put away your damn pitchforks.
It really not about the injuries yes that hurts but my biggest concern they don't play together as a team. I don't care about loses but look like your going play team ball. All this iso crap is what you see in pick up games in the off season it just bad basketball.

Carmelo is a big dude who can punish defenders around the hoop. He was 5 of 7 on 2-pointers tonight. But he took 8 3-pointers and missed them all, and ended the game shooting 5-15 for 11 points which is crap. Nobody scored that poorly for the Blazers. (i'm not going to count little who only took 2 shots).

If coaching matters in the NBA , and maybe it doesn't, Stotts needs a plan for Melo or to hold Melo accountable for not attacking whenever he can. Instead, all shots are good in Stotts's mind, especially for Carmelo, who has never been a greatly efficient scorer.
So now missing 8 open looks at threes is on the coach also. Of course if he makes 5-8 then that wouldn’t be on the coach though right?

Whiteside was an upgrade, Turner/Bazemore was a wash, and Aminu and Harkless are definitely better than Tolliver and Hezonja. Whiteside needs to play well and stay healthy to make it better in the end.

They don't have to be difference makers. When you have 3 above average players (Aminu, Harkless, Kanter) one average player (Leonard), a good role player (Curry) who can knock down 3's and you replace them with players who are grossly below average (Tolliver, Bazemore, Melo, Mario) and promising but raw players (Little, Ant) it adds up to a big difference. It's gonna show next year when there (hopefully) won't be any more injury excuse to fall back on. The only hope is for Ant & Little to improve significantly which is unlikely even though they look promising... probably will take a few years for them.

iso is just what happens when your offense breaks down and turns to shit. That is mostly due to the roster. The team isn’t going around with a conscious effort not to pass.

You know what aminu's BPM is this year? -2.0. You know what it is for his entire career? 0.0...
Harkless for his career is 0.3.
Kanter for his career is -1.3
ML for his career -1.4
Seth is -.1
I think it's really, really hard to put a case together that any of them are above average players. Average maybe. Decentish role players sure.

Tolliver for his career is -0.5
Melo is a 0.9
Mario is a -3.0 (yes he sucks)
Whiteside is a .4
Bazemore -1

In the end it's basically a lot of mediocrity no matter how it's spun. The thing is the bigs are all hurt. Dame's been hurt, Hoods been hurt, The only consistent starter all year has been CJ.

They did not give away a bunch of good role players, they gave away a bunch of average roleplayers and received about the same in return (sure maybe slightly worse). The thing is they haven't adjusted their system at all for what they brought in.

Aminu was not coming back it just wasn't really an option.

With a 7'2 wingspan and a taller standing reach than Tolliver.

nas might be our best rebounder/“big” available, you’re right. And that shows how fucked we are. You cannot win with a 19 year old, 6 foot 5 kid as your best big man.

Heres my counter argument to the injuries excuse:

We knew we werent gonna have Nurk pretty much the entire year.

So really, once Collins go down we suck? Thats on stotts and olshey. There isnt another argument. Olshey more than stotts, though.

yeah, I agree. Olshey/Stotts apologists are really digging to the bottom of the excuse drawer this year

Whiteside should be in your post as well.

meanwhile, Love and Henson were missing for Cleveland and they played last night in Dallas

This is the kind of game that makes Jody think about selling the team.

yeah, but who would want to buy it?

turner was way better than Bazemore. Give me a break. If nothing else he could play PG.

I've no faith of winning, but of a better performance, an opportunity for growth, and a better outlook toward the future. Playing Anthony and Tolliver big minutes in spite of Skal and Nassir is no aim toward winning, no aim toward the future, and no aim to entertain us.

Yeah no difference makers lost. Just aminu our best defender and arguably most consistent scorer of like 6/7 playoff series. What a scrub.

whiteside is not better than aminu

This team has a million issies and you pin it on excuses alone.

You realize that in all but the OKc series teams were begging Aminu to shoot right. So saying he shot well when not guarded, half the forum could do that... I liked seeing Aminu grow and he definitely got better as time went on, but he is basically an average at best role player, and is in Orlanda playing horribly, you can tout his defense all you want but his offense has been so bad its negated his defense.

Dame - back spasms - he played 37 minutes
Hood - back spasms - he played 36 minutes
Collins - surgery - Love was out
Nurk - surgery - Henson was out
Carmelo - 40 years old - Olshey could have signed somebody younger...and the Cavs played last night
Tolliver - 40 years old - Olshey could have signed somebody younger & better...and the Cavs played last night
Whiteside - hip problem - and where was the "incredibly talented" Hezonja?
Skal - ankle injury - he played 18 minutes
Ant - Ankle injury - he played 14 minutes tonight

None of this is Stotts’ fault - bullshit. it's not all Stotts's fault, he didn't build the roster, but plenty of it is

Phil Jackson would lose to the Cavs with this beaten-up roster - bullshit squared.

Put away your damn pitchforks - you're confusing shovels with pitchforks

Sigh.

he played elite defense and his offense was such a “liability” that he led our team in points and shooting % for many playoff series, but you’re still making Excuses how he “didn’t make an impact.” Absurd.

Yes I’m sure you could lead the league in true shooting percentage in the nba playoffs. That sounds just great.

They suck. The only point I disagree with you on is the Phil Jackson one, every coach has bad losses, including Phil Jackson.

They may be the worst team in the league right now, which is weird... I hope they pick it up, but the hope fading...

He also got benched because he couldnt guard anyone on Denver last year and was getting torched. Zach is better than him. Teams were literally not guarding him. The strategy was make him and Harkless shoot and make decisions. If he is so good, how come he’s playing so bad for his new team...

um, yes, players play basketball even with injuries. the more you know!

yes the cavs were deleted and yes Carmelo and Tolliver aren’t helping much. Who else are we gonna sign?
