Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors

Yeah but we upgraded with Thybule. So I am ok with the trade-off. The Wiseman part confuses me but if the Warriors wouldn't play him and wanted to dump him....what does that say about him?
Bust? Reclamation project?

Thybulle is averaging 2.7ppg in 12mpg during his fourth NBA season. His other years have been 3.9-5.7ppg showing little improvement. If he looks great as a Blazer yes they will extend the Qualifying Offer of $6.3million; but I'd say there is a strong chance if he continues with his prior performance they don't.
Nah, that's not his role. He is a perimeter defender and this team needs one. Once GP2 was traded, it pretty much ensures they extend it. Probably try to get him at $5m a year for 3 years or something like that, if he does not take it, qualifying offer and hope no team goes crazy.

Shouldn't believe everything you hear.

As a Blazers fan, there's so much local PR spin surrounding this team now, it becomes dizzying trying to relate to other Blazermaniacs. I can't tell who is a PR bot, and who is a legitimate fan. Are there season ticket holders infiltrating the comment sections, trying to justify why they spent so much on their tickets? The local media wants to keep their jobs, so of course they will only say positive things.

What I do know is the media narrative in building up GP2 to be the needle mover, building a contending franchise, just moved the needle backwards !!

Only thing I can read from this if there is no trickle down trade that was not announced yet, is that this team believes in Shae and is ready to play him a lot more. Maybe Shae to the starting lineup - and see if Cam Reddish can be a designated 2nd unit scorer with Trendon , Drew and MT.
Do we still have Cam Reddish?

Payton was a bust for us, so I'm fine with this. I wish we would have gotten Wiseman though.

Wait wasn't Detroit basically in on this trade? Couldn't we have gotten Noel instead of Knox? No way they actually value that guy right?

Or maybe it was just because Noel costs Jody more money.

This …. is so troll

Why do we keep doing ish like this?

We could have traded for Covington. Cut him in the off-season when we miss the playoffs, then trade for him again in 2 years after the clippers re-sign him.

Reducing $ that will be on books next yr. We're ducking the tax next yr too.

From a source close to the team:

“He waited long past the time the team thought he was ready to play to take the court. He and his trainer were calling the shots, he told the team he didn't trust them and that created the rift. There were some off the court situations I can't really get into. It almost appears that he got paid by PDX and did all he could to get back to the Bay. He frustrated the front office, Dame, and a number of teammates. not good when you give him a full mid-level.”

I’ve seen a lot of smaller stuff going around about him and I know with my eyes I haven’t seen him at a full sprint once this entire season on the court.

We shoulda known what he was about when he explicitly told everyone he just went to the team that gave him the most $

Wish we shipped him somewhere else then lol

I'd heard Ant wasn't real happy with him either. GPII was playing for the Beavs when my son was there and every one of his friends said that guy is a real asshole....so I came into this signing with reservations to begin with and after seeing him play....sure didn't move my needle....he was supposed to be able to guard 5 positions, but Brook Lopez ate his lunch..I'm sort of relieved he's gone now actually. He milked his rehab here for some reason I can't figure out. Josh Hart is the opposite...I'm going to miss that guy.

So Cronin awards him by sending him to where he wants to be?

Well you also have to deal with a player's agent too. So while the player might have caused issues you still want to be in the good graces of the agents who have other players around the league.
GPs agent is also Dames agent and Thybulles agent. I dunno what more favors Aaron Goodwin needs

Well then that makes even more sense that we'd move GP back to the Warriors to give Goodwin's other player an opportunity for more playing time on the Blazers in Thybulle.

Edit: Especially since he's a RFA after this season.

I dunno man. Feel like we got played by this guy. Used us to get a bigger deal than anyone. Then wouldnt play and rehabbed for much longer than the team docs called for, then got traded back to his old team? Leaves a sour taste

Cronin is a rookie GM...he needs to build relationships with every GM and agent in the league. Ainge blew him off this deadline to deal with the Lakers. We may want to deal with Golden State again down the road in a deal. Obviously, Joe needed roster spots to bring in the new guys...that's part of it.

Not sure where your source is from but I believe it. If you follow him on socials the dude seemed to not give a crap about anything that wasn't the Warriors or the bay. When the Blazers came into SF a few months ago the dude was living it up even though he was still "rehabbing". Otherwise silence.
