WHat do you want them to say? How can a comment help them in this? Wait til all the facts are out and then make a statement.
 
One other thing I've noticed that I think is a little bit convenient about this whole episode. The allegations against the Blazers have shifted.

The original narrative was that the Blazers essentially abused Payton, who really wasn't healthy enough to play and was being shot up with painkillers when he still needed to be out for the rest of the season.

Now it's that the Blazers didn't thoroughly report Payton's health status to GS. That complaint's a far cry from where this started.

That's what one would expect when someone makes a bogus charge and is trying to save face.

so they are lying about the injections? I don't understand what it is you're implying. Either Payton received the injections or he didn't. Payton's agent said he didn't. Payton hasn't disputed that. There may be a slight bit of wiggle room in what the agent said, but it's a very tight wiggle

I doubt that all the facts will be public. The NBA may not assess any penalty against the Blazers and there may never be any certainty about the Toradol

and of course, if Payton didn't receive any Toradol as a Blazer, that's a pretty easy statement to release. The Warriors are alleging it happened. Payton's agent is saying it didn't. The Blazers are mum

I agree that Dame is their most high profile and most lucrative client. They would always side with Dame. But this is not between Dame and the Warriors or Dame and GP2. This is between the Blazers and Warriors. I don’t see why they would risk their business integrity or open themselves to a potential lawsuit from GP2 if there was no benefit to Dame or themselves.

There is no reason for him to pick a side. Just stay quiet on the situation... there's no downside to stay quiet.

There's no incentive to get into the cross-fire when he could just stay silent.

That certainly might be a part of it, but there's an inference there that Goodwin made the comment not because it was right, but because Dame wanted it, implying Goodwin was lying.

Personally, I can't see Dame involving himself in that way, unless Dame's character is completely contradictory to what we've seen in the last decade.

Exactly. My guess is that the scenario was closer to........ Dame and his agent were discussing it and Goodwin conveyed that Payton never received the injections and Dame pushed Goodwin to come out and state that.

but I will point out that there sure appears to be wiggle room in what the agent said:

"to be available for games". That sure doesn't eliminate the possibility he had injections earlier in his recovery....which opens the door to 'maybe' he did get some shots and Portland didn't disclose that
 
Blazers need to be careful here if they did hold back info.

Couldn't the medical staff sue for the false Toradol claim? (Not saying they should) That could have done career ending damage to people who did nothing but dedicate their lives to their work.
It's now looking like the shot to play was a lie that was left to hang out there for way too long.
Gary didn't see the tweets and think he should correct them?
These are regular people who don't make multi-million dollar contracts he's messing with!

His agent had to finally comment, at least on the Toradol part, knowing that this was not going to end well for his client.
The damage is still being done as we speak. Twitter/NBA media is almost completely one sided against the blazers/medical staff right now. (Josh Hart to the rescue!)

Blazers are right to keep quiet though. Let them sort it out.

As far as what was held back, time will work that out. We should be hit IF we did mislead another team.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with you. I was just saying the context of the conversation on this board was that Goodwin has more loyalty to Dame than to Payton because of his contract, and that that was the main reason Goodwin made any comment -- contract over truth. I agree with you that it's more likely that if Dame pushed Goodwin to make the statement, it was because to their knowledge it was the truth, not because Dame owns Goodwin.

And warriors should be punished IF their accusations are false
 
If I had to guess on the "holding back information part", it would be that they did not mention that Gary complained about still having some discomfort/pain. And I am not sure I have a problem with that. They all play in some discomfort. Why bring it up? I mean both the Blazers and Warriors watched GP2 play less than 24 hours before. He was fine. So if it was just the pain/discomfort then I don't see a problem. If he is still injured, and they withheld it, yeah that would be a problem. But again the guy played every game in the last 30 days.

Also, I don't think Blazers want to do anything to inflame the situation and don't want to antagonize GS until this trade goes through. They definitely do not want Payton coming back here.
 
There was another option I am not sure anyone has thought of and that is this ....

What if someone on the med staff of a lower rank or something THOUGHT they were just trying to help the team without orders from the top and went to GP2 on the downlow and suggested he take it or something. I realize that might be a far fetched idea but not crazy if prolly unlikely but who knows at this point. I do not think the Blazers did anything wrong and the Warriors prolly would not go through all the trouble of an investigation IF they were running a scam so this is where this idea came was born. The problem is IF something like this did happen the Blazers would prolly still be held liable since it happened under there watch but again who knows.
 
Smells like a shakedown and there's probably something small that GS is using. Most likely the NBA will eagerly decide that the small market will have to give precious GS a pick in the end. Keep us in our place and help one of the NBA's darlings in the process. Because money.

I think Goodwin was telling the truth. I think Dame called him and said something to the effect of "these charges are bulls*** and confirm it with GPII. If the charges are BS, I want you to make a statement to that effect. My team is getting killed and there's no basis for it. Better you piss off GPII than me."

That's a more plausible scenario than the one I stated.
