If only a few teams are interested in using the amnesty clause, as reported earlier in this thread, why is it in the new contract? Who pushed for it? Did Paul Allen push for it? If he did, why did he, if not to use it on Brandon (who is widely considered the most amnesty worthy player in the league)?
Obviously none of us know whether Brandon has had a miraculous recovery this off-season, compared to his previous two seasons of overall futility. If not, then this grueling upcoming schedule in which the owners are attempting to maximize their revenue can only be expected to wear Brandon down moreso than last season -- which wasn't pretty. The worst part to me wasn't how his production diminished as his playing increased, it wasn't how he disrupted chemistry and took his teammates out of their games, it was his complete lack of defensive ability -- it was like playing 4 on 5.
Question (I apologize if it's been posted and I missed it): If Brandon is amnestied, and another team pays him, let's say, $5 mill, does that $5 mill come off our salary for cap purposes?
Thanks.
