NBA Trade Rumors: Trail Blazers Could Land Kevin Love For Hassan Whiteside And Protected 2021 1st-Round Pick
I saw this on Twitter. You know how I know it's a bunch of shit?Any insight on the best return the Cavs have been offered in a love trade since LeBron’s departure? Were any of them good enough for the Cavs to have wished they pulled the trigger in hindsight?
Jason
The only one that I know definitely equated to just a salary dump. Portland offered Bazemore and Whiteside, which essentially would’ve matched Kevin’s salary. But both of those are expiring contracts and the Cavs would’ve received no real assets in return. Portland eventually sent Bazemore to Sacramento.
Most teams were telling the Cavs they’d need to include assets just to get them to take Kevin’s contract. The Cavs were asking for a first-round pick. No one even came close to that. I’d expect them to resume trade talks on Kevin this summer.

Do you think Portland finds themselves in a similar situation with CJ in a few years if they decide hey we want to move on? - I'm not trying to make this a bash CJ thread. - Just wondering if you think we should be worried about that for us going forward.Any insight on the best return the Cavs have been offered in a love trade since LeBron’s departure? Bazemore and Whiteside is way more salary than Love and doesn't work under the cap. You'd think media guys would actually do their homework before making stupid claims.
I noticed that too, but I assumed there was more coming back from the Cavs he just neglected to mention, because KLove was the main piece.I saw this on Twitter. You know how I know it's a bunch of shit?

No, simply because CJ doesn't have a huge injury history like Love, at least not since he's become a starter.Do you think Portland finds themselves in a similar situation with CJ in a few years if they decide hey we want to move on? - I'm not trying to make this a bash CJ thread. - Just wondering if you think we should be worried about that for us going forward.
No, he specifically says those two would've matched Kevin's salary. It's not even close. The guy is full of shit.Or another player could’ve been added from Cleveland, chill out.
You think his injury history is the reason no one is willing to give up legit assets for him? I think that's part of it, but he's also getting older, his contract and production don't really match either at this point. You might be right, I'm not sure but I guess I could see 2-3 years from now the Blazers wanting to move on and teams being like that's a heck of a contract we have to match. No, simply because CJ doesn't have a huge injury history like Love, at least not since he's become a starter.
Nope, according to him that was the offer the Cavs turned down.I noticed that too, but I assumed there was more coming back from the Cavs he just neglected to mention, because KLove was the main piece.

Yes, I believe if Love was durable and putting up the stats he's put up over the last few years he'd be a valuable player still. It's not the full reason for his value being nothing. He's too small to be a full time center and not quick enough to be a full time power forward. You think his injury history is the reason no one is willing to give up legit assets for him? So my assumptions are wrong and then you post this. The Blazers were trying to save salary, remember? This isn't it.It was most likely Whiteside and Baze for Love and Thompson.

It's not my opinion, the guy flat out said that Whiteside and Bazemore matched Love's salary. It doesn't. This is a fact.Mine was a guess. You just assume your opinion is a fact. Fuck outta here, not interested in your shit.

Didn't Olshey say that he never considered trading Whiteside this year. Somebody is not telling the truth.
There's enough grey area in something like this that you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.I saw this on Twitter. You know how I know it's a bunch of shit?

Most definitely. I think we might already be there.Do you think Portland finds themselves in a similar situation with CJ in a few years if they decide hey we want to move on? - I'm not trying to make this a bash CJ thread. - Just wondering if you think we should be worried about that for us going forward.
Oh I see, you just assume that I haven't seen other stuff from this guy on Twitter or from sports radio.Yes that’s a fact, but you also jumped to the conclusion that he must be lying rather than maybe misspeaking in an informal chat. It’s not that big of a deal.
Oh I see, you just assume that I haven't seen other stuff from this guy on Twitter or from sports radio.
I do my homework:
Blazers wanted to reduce tax.
Cavs were too close to the tax line to provide tax relief.
Bazemore and Whiteside is too much for Love straight up.
Whiteside for Love does actually work but this guy implies that once Bazemore was traded elsewhere it ended the trade talks and it would've added significant salary for Portland, which they weren't willing to do.
Adding salary for Cleveland to make it work either puts Cleveland in the tax which I doubt they were willing to do without compensation or doesn't save Portland money, like in your Thompson/Love example.
It's not just some baseless assumption.
I mean, you know for a fact that Portland has been trying to save money. There's enough grey area in something like this that you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.
Whiteside for Love works straight across.
Whiteside + Baze for Love + Delledova (or TT) works.
Just because the one specific item mentioned doesn't work - does not mean there's no truth to it.
No team would ever buy out a player still owed over $90 million for 3 seasons.Kevin Love will be a Blazers next season after Cavs buys him out... I can smell it lol
