As a Raptors fan, what do you think of Siakam? He seems maddeningly inconsistent. Is he actually good or just a tease? Is he actually better than Jerami Grant (well, apart from rebounding, because just about everybody's better than Jerami at that).
I'm not going to compare him to Grant since I didn't watch much of his career with the Pistons or with the Blazers.
Siakam is an outstanding player. He was cold for the first twenty or so games this year--adjusting to a new coach, new system, and having Scottie Barnes as the hub of the offence--but here is what he's been doing since December:
36mpg, 25.9pts, .584/.409/.742, 5.7rpg, 4.8apg, 1 steal, 1.7 turnovers, with good defence.
I think if you look at the last five years of his career (All-NBA twice) he's been pretty consistent:
I think generally the knock on him is he isn't a #1A type player. He's suited to being the second best player on the team. That, and his three point shooting is below average.
On the upside, he's one of the best isolation scorers in the league, has a world-class "motor", and plays good defence. He keeps his nose clean as well.
He's gunning for another All-NBA this season in order to qualify for supermax, if I'm not mistaken. It's going to be near impossible due to Toronto falling so far behind. Even if Toronto does want to trade him they might re-sign him first and do it next year.
He's turning 30 but realistically has only been playing competitive basketball since he was 17. His mileage isn't that high. Should have several more peak seasons left.
