Scoot Henderson thread

it really didn't take that much time at BBREF to dial up the box scores of the Curry and Scoot games. A little bit of time sorting thru game logs of Curry, Durant, and Dame, but the FGA are in a column so it's pretty quick
That I'm sure is one other thing. When I was doing it there was no BBRef and way fewer sites that gave you as much info as now. I scoured Box scores sometimes in the paper and saved the Basketball Digest and Slam Mag that came out weekly. ESPN magazine was okay but it wasn't as dedicated to basketball. Things got easier after 2008 or so?

When was the first time Dame had 30 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals (or better) in a game?

I assume you were looking for 33 or more points to match Scoot.

The quick search I did showed Dame has never had that output. I'm guessing the steals is the stopper there but he has never had a game with >= 33 points, >= 9 assists, >= 7 rebounds and >= 3 steals.

Gramps...

Sorry everyone.
Didn't mean to derail the thread.
Scoot played hard and gave great effort against the Suns. It was great to see. Hope he continues to progress.
IMHO it's more than just the amount of shots to points. It's more about the types of shots he is taking that will lead to better percentages. He needs to get that left going. Right now he's working way too hard to take a shot with his right hand. It's costing him at the rim.
This can and I'm sure will be worked on and he will continue to progress.

BBREF used to be better than it is, but they eliminated a couple of stat categories and put others behind a paywall

they used to have a search function where you could select 2 players and see how they performed when both were on the floor together

I wonder if I could build something like that through Excel? Biggest issue would be updating it?

people get irritated with me when I post some statistical 'analysis'

that kind of cherry-picked snapshot is obviously designed to make Scoot look great but has no comparative context, and I think that's a little irritating

so, compare the context between what Scoot did and what Curry did:

Points: Curry 36...Scoot 33
FGA: Curry 22...Scoot 31
FG%: Curry .500...Scoot .355
Rebounds: Curry 10...Scoot 7
Assists: Curry 13...Scoot 9
TS%: Curry .705...Scoot .472
eFG%: Curry .659...Scoot .419
BPM: Curry +6.9...Scoot +0.8
Result: Warriors win by 30...Blazers lose by 11

those are simply not equivalent games, but you'd never know it by that cherry-picked snapshot. Curry had a triple double AND great efficiency; and his team won. Same for 19-year old Durant. Scoot shot 31 times last night in his 30th NBA game. Durant didn't have 31 FGA in a game till the 38th game of his 3rd season. Curry didn't shoot 31 times till the 80th game of his 3rd season when he scored 47. Dame didn't shoot that many times till the 80th game of his 5th season when he scored 59

don't take this as trashing Scoot because I haven't been one of those doing that. He's not a bust and he isn't going to be. That game last night showed Scoot's potential, and it also showed his major flaw.
But no one said Scoot’s game was better than Curry’s. I think you wasted your time. Sorry.

Or just 30 points for that matter. I think the rebounds are the stopper.

We also know, we just don't like admitting it. Both players give up as much as they score at times. They are both very poor defenders that are buckets, but for as much as they score, not alphas. So they are expensive, point getters that don't contribute a lot of other things.
They are both "Sixth men". Should be coming off the bench for a good team.

I watched a video on POTENTIAL busts, and there was talk about Scoot. Of course, the video concentrated on his offense, which has been somewhere from abysmal to mediocre.

However, what I look for are assists. He is 34th in the league in assists/36 with 6.4:

This is ahead of Maxey and Giannis, and just behind Shai. Lillard is averaging 6.9. So, while I'd like to see an improvement this year, I am happy, for now.

However, his assist/TO (1.53) needs to improve dramatically:

Yeah where is the tape showing CB saying that?

Haven't found the Video yet, just the tweet. But the more i think about it, maaaybe he was right. Scoot was great in the 1st half, and didn't do much in the 2nd half and had some bad turnovers. The Blazers went on a run and Billups stuck with that group. In the end it was the right decision because the Blazers won the game, but it's gonna suck for Scoot

I don't see the big deal in not putting Scoot back in at the end of a close game. Right now he is not as dependable as
Ant and Malcolm. He will get there but right now that high dribble of his is a big ass target that Giannis would have feasted on. Why embarrass the kid on national TV?

This game? I don't really care.

I don't like this approach in general though. We shouldn't be caring about wins and losses this much.

Let us say we trade Malcolm, and Sharpe comes back by the deadline.......Scoot will get a few more minutes but will he finish games? That backcourt lineup will go to Ant and Sharpe....at least for this season. And that would be the correct call IMO. It is still a young backcourt and Simons is still our best option to score in crunch time. He needs to be on the floor.

I don't care about who starts or finishes games.

I DO care that he's averaging 21 minutes per game over the last 10 games.

If you take out the 2 games that he left due to an injury, he is averaging about 26 minutes in the last 10.
That's not too bad. But yeah 22 minutes is a little low like he has gotten the last 3 games.

Chauncey trying to win games and playing our vets a ton of minutes right now is not really helping us.

I think Billups is right in his assessment. Scoot’s playing well but we saw how easily his confidence just shattered at the beginning of the season. Can you imagine how bad it’d be for him if he were to be responsible for losing the biggest game of our season on National TV? We have plenty of time, no need to put him in a situation with so much to lose right now.

Again. I'm not talking about that game. I'm talking about the last 10 games.
Sorry my bad. That said, I don’t take any coaching decision this close to the deadline (including the last ten games) as anything more than being told to feature our assets.

Honestly don't blame him, unless hes got some kind of handshake deal with cronin about not worrying about wins and to play the rooks and he wont get fired, hes probably got to try and win while also developing scoot and other rooks. And who knows maybe cronin is telling him to highlight potential trade candidates more than the rooks because he knows they will get their time after the deadline. And while scoot should definitely get more minutes, at least hes not getting even less.
