Honestly don't blame him, unless hes got some kind of handshake deal with cronin about not worrying about wins and to play the rooks and he wont get fired, hes probably got to try and win while also developing scoot and other rooks. And who knows maybe cronin is telling him to highlight potential trade candidates more than the rooks because he knows they will get their time after the deadline. And while scoot should definitely get more minutes, at least hes not getting even less.

This is a wasted season if we're not playing our young guys. I get that he wants to get wins but wins don't help us right now. If they happen organically while we play our young guys, so be it, but meaningless wins at the expense of developing our young guys is not a good decision at all.

Chauncey trying to win games and playing our vets a ton of minutes right now is not really helping us.

Keep in mind that both Walker and Camara have been getting minutes in crunch time. So Chauncey is willing to play the youngsters.
Also before Sharpe got hurt he was playing in crunch time. So really we are just talking about Scoot and as mentioned he is getting close to 26 minutes a game.

Granted when Sharpe comes back Chauncey will have to figure something out.....if Malcolm has not been traded. But right now I don't think that Billups is overplaying the vets. We are just talking about one guy, and he is still getting plenty of run.
Unless you are worried about Murray and Rupert and as far as I am concerned they can wait their turn like most rookies do.

I think you're overvaluing the extra playing time. I saw Scoot get in over his head last night and don't think pushing the issue this early in his career is necessary.

You're only allowed to feel the way I tell you to feel.

Because I'm always right!

Well you just debunked that with this...

again i get where your coming from but if losses matter to cronin and jody for some damn reason or they want the vets to play to increase their value then playing the young guys doesnt matter when your jobless.

Chauncey himself has said on multiple occasions that the best way to develop is by playing

I don't think anyone would debate that. But did Chauncey say how many minutes are needed?

I would say there is very little difference between 30 minutes and 40 minutes. Is there a difference between 22 and 30?

in my mind, yes. especially when the 22 minutes doesn't include clutch time. chauncey himself said yesterday that he wanted to put brog back in once Scoot turned the ball over in the 4th quarter because he wanted to "win" the game.

this completely defeats the purpose of the season in my mind.

why do we need to win now? surely we aren't having delusions of grandeur about making the play-in. So we are prioritizing winning while deliberately worsening our lottery odds as our prized rookie sits and watches instead of getting reps.

A close game against a contender while Scoot is on the bench is no "win" for me.

Agreed.

All he needed was glasses I'm fucking dying. I know I keep saying it but I don't think I'll ever get over that.
Now just make them personal Scoot type.

Just curious folk, who do we think we have in Scoot? (comparison to a relatively recent PG)?

Initially I was hoping for a Nash/Kidd/Paul type but as I watch him, I'm increasingly thinking @THE HCP has gotten his wish and we have a Westbrook.

The kid plays with fervent abandon and is not as much of an assist guy as I had thought and is more of a scorer.

Am I off base?

We have a point guard like no other point guard! All hail the Scoot!
There has been and will be no other point guards before Scoot!
We Are Not Worthy!
Behold the Scoot and Know that he is Real!

Just kidding. Yeah lets hope he continues to excel and If he becomes as good as Westbrook we will all be very happy I'm certain.
Going to enjoy his growth and progression this season.

100%. Scoot is doing just fine with the minutes he is getting and I believe Chauncey is grooming him correctly. Leas minutes and shorter leash when he is off his game. More minutes and longer leash when he shows well.
On those less minutes games, he has a quality vet playing more who can come back and explain to him what he is doing vs what Scoot was doing, to help accelerate his game and bbiq.

I think the assists will come; he certainly wanted to dish a lot very early in the season but of course nobody was catching his passes. I think Billups might be kind of rebuilding Scoot from first principles to fit the team, which has turned Scoot into a scorer for now. Giving Scoot a three turnover limit per game (mentioned by the play by play team during the Milwaukee game) probably is part of that. When Scoot learns control better, he will be given more leash, and I think next year he will turn into a more assist-oriented guy.

at the same time, making him work on first step moves and penetration, taking contact and getting to the line might end up evolving him into a different kind of guard, more in the Rose style rather than Nash. I’m interested to see what kind of player he is in two years.

FAMS...... my prayers have been answered. I still see a mix of Westbrook and D Rose.

Wondering how this place would be reacting right now if he was averaging a Triple-Double and how they would be spinning it. He'd be an all star/all NBA player. But HIS triple doubles would be different huh? HA... this place bro.

I dunno, would Scoot be missing shots on purpose and shoving Ayton out the way to get the rebound?

Since Scoot doesn’t have the top-end, Uber-athleticism of Westbrook and D.Rose, how happy would people here be if Scoot has the production of Chauncey in Detroit? 16 and 6. Maybe not at 90% from the line or approaching 40% from 3. But a guy who gets to the line and hits. Who shoots set shot and catch and shoot 3’s to go with foot in the paint scoring. Whose combinations of strength and functional speed is really good. And who is a willing defender and looks to make plays for others on O. A total team guy.

Scoot looks like a guy who loves hoops and team ball.

What makes you say that about his athleticism? He is pretty much the fastest and quickest guy on the court every night... he's also been showing his vertical explosiveness more and more lately. Turns out the guy can jump both broad and high.

Seriously this take would have made sense like ten games ago but right now reads like you haven't been watching him play lately. That's from the athleticism comment to the comments about his shooting.

Exactly. His first step is confirmed super fast, and his decision making on that first step is the right amount of presumptive, giving him an even faster jump on his defender. He can dunk and can hold his position into contact. When you also have Sharpe on your team, I guess everyone looks less than uber-athletic, but for mere mortals with less than a 50" vertical, he's really really good.

My best comp I can think of is young Jason Kidd. Very similar in how they operate. Scoot better touch at that point in their careers

Id like to add that when SS is healthy, putting a solid offensive slasher next to Scoot will likely improve his assist numbers as well.
