I don't think anybody is suggesting legalizing all drugs. They would still be restricted to prescriptions by medical professionals.ahh understood. My apologies @riverman. it read to me like you were saying if we remove the sources it would lower the costs.
I don't necessarily agree with legalizing all drugs, but do agree we need better resources to help addicts kick the habit and then preventative measures to better educate the youth to avoid them turning to drugs for answers to their problems. Some of this is on the parents and some of it is providing parents with these tools to optimally arm them, to deal with the issues and find other solutions with their kids.
getting kids involved in sports and music at an early age has proven to be largely successful in this. I was very saddened to hear my old high school no longer has a music program and had dropped a few sports programs. The continual decrease in funding these programs like debate clubs, fully funded sports programs and music programs, i think, directly correlates to the youth getting involved in the wrong things after school.
I do believe these programs must be instilled first, prior to removing the source of drugs or it would be putting the cart before the horse and would likely backfire, much like the legalization of possession of small amounts of drugs somewhat backfired on Portland recently.
I think we are generally on the same page.![]()
But you make sure everyone has the access to medical professionals for the treatment they need for any drug dependency issues that may arise.
Removing the source of illegal drugs simply isn't an option. It's not possible.
