Why does it even need to be asked…..or an answer expected? It’s her business. It’s like me asking you (or your wife), who’s on top when you have sex. The answer is……………………………”it’s none of my business”.

No, it doesn't have to be asked. But, whatever.

Bullshit. Marriage does not have to declare husband and wife. There may be some same sex couples who refer to themselves that way, our community is very diverse, but I don't know any and I am certain I know a lot more gay folks than ABM, who probably knows zero.

Not only us it no one's business, it implies lesbians aren't actually women, just imitation men. Or we can't "get" a man so settle for artificial man.

I don't know how many men have asked me why don't you like men. Because they, specifically their penises, are center of the universe. Corollary is their penis will make us straight. What they don't get is they are irrelevant. Lesbians are women whose sole or primary emotional and physical attraction is to women. Nothing to do with men. Repeat, they are irrelevant to our orientation.

Typical ABM. Makes claims then wants someone else to do his research.

K, I answered my own question. However, the article did remark that the question was a "popular" one.

So, in this article, Chasten Buttigieg is listed as the husband.

My assumption was the Pete would naturally be the wife. However, based upon the previous article, it appears that they could both be husbands. I had read awhile back about a gay couple back in the day listing themselves as husband and wife. That verbiage could have all changed since then, though. I did search for that article but didn't find it.

Haha you quoted an article from 2014. From briefly looking at the website it doesn't look like anything you would spend much time on.

There can be two husbands. Who cares what they call themselves? Not really something I would ask someone.

I can understand why you asked that. You're obviously the wife in your relationship. Your partner has the career, the assets, you seem to do most of the cooking. If roles in relationships have to be labeled then yours is one of the easiest to define.

You only know what I want you to know. Heh.

I ask questions all the time.

Does Petrow (from the aforementioned article) have the de facto standard book on the subject? Dunno

You would try to read a gay and lesbian manners book for dummies instead of reading the audience and the room. I've spent a lot of time with lgbtq people. They have prefered spouse if you don't know.

I said "dunno", which may subtlety imply I probably won't be picking up the book anytime soon. At any rate, as always, thanks again for your sharing your vast expertise.

It's a fair question. @crandc had related in another thread her congratulations to Pete Buttigieg and his husband celebrating their two new babies. I was simply curious as to how those determinations come about. I don't see any insensitivities in asking that question. Are there??

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pet...troduce-babies-family-photo/story?id=79832236

Not it's not a fair question. It's very inappropriate and crass. Even if you are genuinely curious its just wrong to go there. Imagine how violating that is to Crandc.

Is it that freakin' sensitive of a subject?!? As far as I know, the current law states someone has to be listed as the husband and a wife. Pete was listed as the wife. It's not unreasonable to be curious.

There is no such law. Just stop

Your reading comprehension is alarming

The popular question is why do couples use husband and wife over partner?

It's not are you the husband or the wife?

Also, the article says don't ask that and it goes shortly into why.

Chasten is a husband. Pete is a husband too. It never says Pete is the wife. Pete refers to Chasten as his husband. You made an assumption.

They could go by husband and wife. They could go by partner or spouse. It's not yours or my business what they choose.

Gay women may go by wife and wife, but they could too go by what they want.

When gay couples use husband or wife its because they fought for the right to call each other that. The fought hard for the right to marry. But, they can use whatever they want. Straight people don't get to label gay people.

After Obergefell many states that had not already done so updated language on marriage license applications to reflect reality. It would not surprise me if some states still used husband and wife to show their contempt for us. We don't define ourself by those who hate us.

Biden won California by almost two to one. Trump is so toxic Republicans won't invoke him.

Has California raked their forests yet?

Anytime for you sweetie.

I had no idea that you were married.

CONGRATULATIONS!
